Hobson’s choice really. There was a lot of bleating about it at the time. Pressure from both the government and the FA.

I may have been wearing Red tinted glasses. Bit busy this morning. Anyway the scousers got a hiding and immediately started arguing with themselves on here. Which is always amusing to read.

Fielding a young side would have ruined the integrity of the competition was the main complaints at the time iirc.
Why? We’d fielded ridiculously young and inexperienced teams for years in the League Cup and did similar in the FA Cup soon after for the early rounds.
How the fk should I know? We were derided in the press at the time and apparently started the death of the FA cup which did not actually happen.

I’m really not that arsed. The st show in this years league cup should have been dealt with before it started. It wasn’t as in my opionion the football league buried their heads in the sands and as a result Liverpool fielded kids and got knocked out.

I wasn’t having a pop at you. I remember the dog’s abuse we got very well. Having said that we were away for a lot longer than Liverpool. IIRC we missed the whole of the Christmas fixtures and the first week of Jan, so the first round (for us anyway) of the FA Cup. Liverpool shouldn’t have been opted out of a cup that they could easily have been knocked out of earlier. They’re only missing one round of PL matches, so hardly a disaster. I still don’t see what the problem is in playing kids, we’ve just done it in the Europa League, our Carabao Cup teams have been the second string with some kids thrown in and will no doubt do it again.

Liverpool got knocked out, tough st for them, but not sure I’d deride them for doing what they did. They shouldn’t have been allowed to opt out of the Carabao IMO.

Sorry. Vodafone customer services have me at boiling point. I’ve nothing against what Liverpool have done either. Sadly it’s the trials of a successful team. Which they currently are.

Only really Martial and Maguire that you’d call 1st team players though. The rest are subs at best.

Durrrrr and Rashford too. Missed him in the line up. Whoops.

Just following the match on BBC text updates.

1 shot on target in first 20 minutes.

Is it that bad?

Are we taking this game seriously?

This Colchester side beat Spurs in previous round; bums could get twitchy if we don't take the lead soon.

It is terrible. We must have 75% of the ball and are camped on the edge of their area. From there we have absolutely no idea what to do. Rashford’s shots are more likely to go out for a throw than score.

Perfect proof, if it were needed, that we are incapable of breaking down lesser teams. I fully expect them to break and score first.

80% possession all on the edge of their area and only 9 shots and only 1 on target.

Piss poor.

It’s like watching the same gif over and over. The ball just goes side to side and then gets chipped in nowhere near a United player for a goal kick.

We needed penalties to overcome Rochdale previously, for fk's sake.
