Salah was a big factor I agree as you can't go chasing the wingbacks if you have someone with his pace able to get in behind the space you'd leave doing that. Surprised that Mane didn't do the same on the other side though but then like I said, he had a pretty quiet game by his standards.
Either that or Ole is a misunderstood tactical genius.

Klopp sees the squad day in day out and gets paid a fortune to make the tactical decisions... but I’d have preferred to see Mane on the left from the start... his link up play with Robertson is much better than with Trent. We wasted far too much time trying (and failing) to get down the right yesterday. Which also left us vulnerable to Rashford countering with Trent out of position.
Another problem yesterday was our long balls. We kept crossing it in from wide or deep, into Firmino or Mane and we were losing possession 99 times out of 100. So it's not that our full backs were completely cut off, they weren't, but their end product just wasn't working for us. Firmino and Mane were just too isolated and Origi wasn't effective.
Your fullbacks weren't able to push up as deep as they usually do so had to resort to diagonal crosses from deep and you don't really have anyone that's very strong in the air for that. Origi is a big lump but I've not seen him get up for headers too often and neither do the other two.
You need a Llorente if you want to play like that.
No idea why we got rid of him personally. Big lumps up front are a bit old school but he added a very different option that a lot of modern teams don't seem to know how to deal with.

That’s my biggest frustration with yesterday’s game.
Hoofing diagonal balls in from 25-30 yards was never going to work when you don’t have a ‘‘target man’ and you’re playing against a team with 3 CH’s. It didn’t seem that difficult to see that even a quarter in to the game. Yet Trent was still doing it in the 2nd half.
Every time he did it it boiled my piss to be honest.
A game where we missed someone like Coutinho to weave his way through the middle, where we had more numbers.

On quite a few occasions we ended up with Henderson overlapping Trent, which was pointless as Henderson either didn't then cross it, or crossed it badly. I'm not going to over analyse it, but there might be something in how the play developed that led to Trent coming inside and Henderson then making his run.
Normally it would have been Salah coming inside for Trent to overlap.

Awful performance but will always take a point at Old Trafford no matter how they are playing
I thought our subs changed the game for us, Keita needs to start v spurs to, we get so much more from him on the ball..
Hendo is really in a run of bad form and needs dropping, yesterday Hendo completed 26 passes in 71mins, Keita for eg complete 22 in 8.
He offers us a far more direct pass, he's willing to pick it up deep and drive it forward much quicker
I'd like to see a midfield of
Fab
Wij
Keita
V spurs

Some of the crap posted is hilarious.. we have one bad day at the office and we've 'been found out' Its one thing knowing how a team plays but actually being able to do something about it is another, We certainly missed Salah but you can bet your ass you won't see us as lack lustre as that for a long time, We looked a shadow of ourselves and they played their best game in probably 12 months, st happens we could be midtable and really worried about relegation
Us being 'found out' is a classic though.
I remember when Salah had apparently been 'found out' last season "just show him on his right" the pundits and armchair experts said.
Yeah ok, golden boot.
On reflection, we had a really bad day, and if a team has no attacking intention they will have a chance against us as we had no creative player to unlock a defence (That and the fact we were all over the place).
Defending and playing on the counter against us is not new news. If you are open you'll just get a hiding, same as when teams play city, and no one wants that, so Ole's tactic of 5 (8) at the back was probably his only option.
In hindsight we were ste and he could've actually played more openly and expansive.
It's a shame we haven't got a KDB to play against defensive sides, or Coutinho. Maybe Naby could develop into that player, he did well yesterday.
If he's fit then I agree with Sye that Hendo should be 'rested' on Sunday for Naby.

We always look apprehensive and a bit nervous at OT buy yesterday we were not at the races one bit (apart fom last 10-15 mins arguably) We will be back on it at home next weekend though, If we have an occasional off game we generally come back guns blazing and hand out a thorough spanking (fingers crossed) Agree that Hendo needs a rest and lets try Ox / Keita to see if he is the real deal, Maybe try them out on a weaker side like Spurs
Only joking in case Guvernator takes it all personal and gets upset.

I was actually going to suggest if you are going to do any experimenting with your midfield, playing Spurs in their current form at Anfield is probably one of the best games to do it as we are pony. Not sensitive about saying that.
Saying that we don't seem to currently have the players to put pressure on your wingbacks either so you may not even need to tinker with your midfield tbh.

You might not be on form, but I won't be taking you lot for granted.Saying that we don't seem to currently have the players to put pressure on your wingbacks either so you may not even need to tinker with your midfield tbh.
Especially with Dele Ali and his wandering hands

9 games gone and we are unbeaten and sit 6 points clear of our main rival. Out of those games we’ve now played arsenal Chelsea utd and Leicester, some of the perceived difficult games. City meantime have only really played spurs who are considered a top6/7 team
Well imo Utd away, Chelsea away and city away have to be considered our toughest fixtures. We got 2 points from a possible 9 out of those three games last season.
We already have 4, with city to play so that's progress
We also got two extra points from the Leicester game that we didn't get at home last season.
That 6 points gap is a little cushion we've earned for ourselves as we can't (and won't) win every game.
Spurs and villa next before City, if we still have our cushion and avoid defeat to City I'll be very happy.
