Can hardly blame the ref going on other ref decisions having gone Liverpool’s way this year.
Do you mind proving 2 of these occasions this year ?

By this year i assume you realise i meant this season, obviously.

https://talksport.com/football/648917/have-liverpo...

Some good analysis, Liverpool joint 5th with 4 "for" decisions.
Yes That is VAR, now what about these Ref decisions you were on about ?
Remind me what VAR stands for again? Or even just the R.
So because we have had 4 VAR decisions go our way it's perfectly alright for the Referee to totally bottle it last night..

I understand now

No, if you read what i originally put, sometimes you get decisions your way, other times you don't; Liverpool last night had one of those nights where decisions didn't go their way, the examples i posted are where they've had decisions go their way.

It isn't that difficult to understand.

Christ this is boring, can we stop going on about the ref

Yes he was a bit crap, but we were toothless and they defended well and that's why we lost

Second leg likely to be a nervous affair

Yup. The ref was as crap as our performance. Let's focus on the one that we can change.

Very. The fear of them scoring and us potentially needing 3! Big Diego will have a few games under his belt by then too! yikes

Should be a facsinating game at Anfield with the atmosphere and quality.

For me the sense of jeopardy has gone this year. We are so close to binning the whole "never won the premier league thing" it's the only thing that is getting any attention in my simple mind.

Same here I really didn’t care last night when we lost.
Yes it was annoying but didn’t hit as bad as it normally does

The team that came back from a 3 nil deficit to Barcelona at Anfield will smash Atletico the same way. I have no doubt and no fear. IKWT.

Agree - I just miss the feeling of jeopardy and clinging onto any nervous straw I can get! haha spin

I wasn't too fussed with the result either; given the quality we have but it's also dangerous to think we should use the Barca result last year as some kind of safety net thinking we'll just go through.

It is still mostly all about winning the league. CL a bonus this year. The greedy part of me still wants both though!

Theres 2 things we do without fail:

1. Come back from a break and we're st; and

2. Come back from a poor performance fired up.

West Ham are gon a get absolutely smashed and wouldnt be surprised if we register our biggest season score on Monday night.

Completely agree. Yes it would be nice to do get to 3 CL finals in a row but PL PL PL all the way, for me.

Just driving back from an appointment and had TalkSport on - some journo was talking about Arsene Wenger wanting to push through a "clear daylight" offside rule quickly and they got to talking about VAR. The team that has benefited MOST from VAR this season, the team that would be 6 or 7 places (I forget which) lower down the table without VAR...

Spurs.

I laughed.

I felt the opposite. Was really frustrated with the performance. It just never felt like we'd get a goal. It might be a good kick up the butt to keep things focused for the rest of the season (if we care about records). Some of the stats were a bit unexpected:
  • Since the start of last season, Liverpool have lost six of their 10 away games in the Champions League (W4); no side has lost more away from home in the competition in this time (level with Red Star Belgrade).
  • Klopp has failed to win all seven of his away games against Spanish clubs in the Champions League (D3 L4), including three with Liverpool (D1 L2).
  • Atletico have won 12 of their last 13 home matches in all major European competitions (D1), also keeping 11 clean sheets in this run.
Given those not too surprising we lost in some ways!

Point the finger at who we like, but no shot on target tells the real story.
Yet another nervy European night at Anfield to come.
Great to see a few familiar faces back posting in this thread tonight, we’d gotten worried about ye. Also a few new ones, welcome along smile

Now how many points are we ahead in the League again?

Simeone outfoxed Liverpool, it’s that simple. I am positive at Anfield they will go through but tbh it was naive to think that Atletico would roll over. All credit to them, nobody in the premier league has managed what they have.

I wouldn’t say we were outfoxed really they got a lucky early goal ( it should have been our throw in and then it bounce of Fab ) after that they did what Atletico do best and defending en masse.

That said they deserved the win and we will see what we can do at home
