Lovren at least has done some good things for the team at times. Karius spent more time talking himself up and then not backing that up.
Agreed. I reckon he's had his day with us. But he gives a st and puts a shift plus THAT goal in the champions league.
And you're talking about Lovren, the self professed "best defender in the world".
I'd say they're on par with each other. Both were capable of having great games. Both capable of calamitous mistakes. Both no longer good enough for the top, top level.

(but he only passes sideways)
Always amuses me when people quote this. He finally evolves his game but people still use the quote which was very appropriate 24 months ago.jammy-git said:
Karius was having a good season with us up until the CL final. He wasn't a world class keeper but he was easily as good a keeper as Lovren is a defender.

I can't remember 1 time Karius made a great save. I just can't, sorry. He was no more competent than Mings - clean sheets were more down to the defence than either of them making worldie saves. And you're talking about Lovren, the self professed "best defender in the world".

IMO it was never warranted. Whilst Kenny and Rodgers were here his passing was great. In the first couple of seasons with Klopp I think it was clear that there were particular passing options Klopp wanted out midfield to use. It wasn't that he couldn't pass forward, but it was his job not to lose possession.
You might well be right - could have been a specific Klopp instruction - however it was flawed. A tactic that has rightly been binned and Henderson's game is now built on his strengths - great long passes forward, his engine room pressing and his leadership.
