This issue with this is they told LFC after the game they had not looked at it as they were judging the offside (so it was missed as they didnt believe they had to if offside)- next day they said he cant be punished (something I was personally not bothered about) because they had seen it - so they are covering up for the failures of their refs who basically dont know the rules... you can understand any club fuming about being lied to so they can protect 1 of their own...
I didn’t realise that, but I have some sympathy for the refs, it’s the system that is wrong. Rugby and cricket give clear, broadcast reviews which help everyone to understand how a decision has been arrived at. I find the rugby reviews more frustrating because they often pick up on minor infringements that didn’t have any impact on the outcome, but that’s another story. I personally hope they rest Pickford for a few games, there was none of this hubris when Son cut Gomes in half last season.

I am not sure you can blame the system, other leagues get it right, look at Germany or even Australia use of Var/video ref connected to pitch ref etc its far clearer/better than ours....I personally hope they rest Pickford for a few games, there was none of this hubris when Son cut Gomes in half last season.
I genunely think bar a couple we just have really really bad refs, who are on a bit of a power trip
Excellent article here in the weekends events:

We had all the luck against Liverpool
Personally I am mystified why Pickford's action is referred to as a tackle - I dont see him doing anything other than trying to make himself as big as possible to block the ball - I dont think he was attempting any sort of tackle. I dont think for a second he was attempting to injure anyone it was just a misjudgement. Was it reckless? Apparently so according to the pros but any tackle that goes wrong, is mis-timed or whatever can be seen as reckless, especially if there is a bad outcome - See Gomes/Song.
As for Liverpool - I'm afraid that they have so little moral capital to call on that I have no sympathy for the position they have been left in as a team but I hope VVD is back playing as soon as possible.
I would rest Pickford - he must be under a lot of pressure right now - and we need to hope the new boy has a blinder.
