Whats being totally ignored is the fact that the Man U defender actually plays the ball. It isnt a straight deflection into the net, he moves to interfere with the shot and it comes off the inside of his foot and into the net.
therefore, Sigurdson is not offside at all.

Wrong it's the time the shot was taken as a deflection is not a deliberate phase of play so. Doesn't count...

The wider point is VAR, it seems increasingly obvious that ref's are bottling it and deferring any contentious decisions to the VAR ref, a faceless, unaccountable entity, locked somewhere within the bowels of Stockley Park. I genuinely think it's an attempt to diffuse and nullify protest, which is exactly why we shouldn't stand for it. If the referee's went to the touchline to review and make their decision from there then ok, but they are abrogating their responsibility on each and every occasion.
totally agree with this

It's marginal and depends on your POV, not worth getting hot and bothered about though. What do you think of VAR in general?
Like my pubic lice, VAR's not going anywhere, so just get used to it.

We're 5th in the league, because we have a points tally which places us 5th. Our performances, over 28 games, place us 5th, not VAR.

You're 11th, but not far off 4th. If you have a strong finish, Champions league spot is obtainable.

As I said, its not a deflection, Maquire deliberately plays the ball with the inside of his heel.

If you cant see it, get down the shops and buy some Everton supporters specs. wink

Feed them on sugar, it won't kill them but it will rot their teeth. VAR is here to stay but needs some serious refinement, how can rugby and cricket get it almost right and football get it so wrong?

The refs should be made to go and look at the moniter. Only once as a ref done that this season, are they being told not to and leave to the Knobhead in Stockley Park

WTF was Gylfi doing sitting there anyway? He was a definite distraction to De Gea and so interfering with play even though he wouldnt have saved it even if Sigurdsson wasn't there.

Amazed at the way CA has turned things round and by the way DCL has suddenly started scoring goals. It's all looking much better.

He was flattened by the defenders and had a good shout for a pen. What would you expect him to do in that scenario?

I think Big Dunc has to take the credit for the turnaround with DCL, he told him to stay up top more often and to be more aggressive and play like he did. I think Carlo has rightly left him to carry on the track. But the turnaround in him has been amazing, hopefully his confidence will continue to grow and he'll get even better

Aye. As a Utd fan, would have zero complaints if a penalty was given for the late sliding tackle on Gylfi. He was cleaned out.

Holgate has signed a 5 year contract. Good news for us, cracking prospect and I personally hope DCL, Davies and Pickford will stick together. They could be a very good spine COYB

Totally agree Blue granted Pickford as been erratic dropped a couple of clangers but he still a top keeper and will come back to his best, we slate him but we forget how many top saves have gathered us points.

I don’t get the Pickford love in

Sky sports graphics showing him 2nd top for mistakes last season and joint top for mistakes this season.
If Everton are aspiring to be a top 4 or better club, there are very few players in that squad that would get into a typical top 4 squad.
Pickford isn’t one of them.

I'm in the camp that he's ok for now, we have other areas that we need to strengthen more desperately. However I would be on the look out for a replacement, or at the very least a strong number 2 to keep him on his toes. I think that's part of the problem, we have nobody to challenge him for his position.

I see Chunk has been sent back from Palace broken. We don't seem to have much luck when we loan players out

Agree with you Bug, we have bigger issues than a new keeper but Pickford needs competition. He’s got talent but is a sandwich short, that said look at De Gea on £400k per week!!!!

Shame about Tosun, decent fella who will now miss out on Euros and a possible move to Palace. No winners in that one.

Bad news on Tosun

I was hopeful he could at least score 5 at palace and get a move, looks like he will end up seeing out his final 2 years in the u23s if he doesn’t accept a pay cut to move elsewhere.
His time on the bench and training with the U23’s is as much down to his stubbornness over his wage demands,

Btw I agree replacing Pickford isn’t the number 1 priority; the priority has to be to rid the squad of the over paid deadwood like Schniderlin, Michael Keane, Tosun, Iwobi, Walcott, etc while bringing in actual quality or players young enough and already talented enough to improve.

I'm not sure he's being stubborn necessarily, if you were asked to take a pay cut and refused would that be a sign of stubbornness on your part? I know these guys are on crazy money etc but I don't think Tosun is a bad lad, lacks the pace for the prem but entitled to hang onto his wages. Our best bet is to move him on cheaply if we can, hope he recovers in time for the Euro's.

I trust Carlo, and me thinks he knows who is going in the Summer. I also think he has a couple of players ready to come in, he is a savvy manager and top players will come now.
