...do they work for? Need to buy some for my old mum's tree, they appear to run off 2x AA batteries, 45 LED lights how long do they run for off a set of batteries? She'll have them on most evenings until new year.

Why respond if you've got nothing sensible to say?

Usually well past when you take them down on one set of batteries.

Get the ones with a timer built in. Come on for six hours at the same time each day so you don't need to worry about them once they're set up.

Neighbour has them, I think he said that they last one season (put fresh batteries in them when you put the up, throw the batteries way when you take the lights down)

I will check when I see him next!

Don't leave the batteries in them when you put them away in January. Ask me how I know.

Empty them and put new ones in next year.

Tesco sell sets like that. The 100-led strings last about a fortnight on one set of decent AA batteries, using the few-hours-a-day setting.

Trick is to use decent heavy duty batteries. I recently thought I'd save a few quid and bought cheaper panasonic AA's.. complete and utter st.

Sorry snowflake, have I upset you?

A £4 set of battery lights and you start a thread to ask how long a pair of batteries costing what, a pound will last.

God help you when you have a big dilemma in your life.

Let's be honest here, you replied with a sarcastic answer, and now your more offended that he called you out on it. Maybe he would like to know so hes not driving half way across a country every 3 days to change a battery for his elderly parent?

Personally get a set from BnM that plugs in. Then to avoid the tangled mess next year, chuck them out. At £10 a pop its worth less hassle.

Why not get mains powered ones?

Based on the set the ms bought for the stairs, about a week if you only have them on for saturday and then between 6 and 10 during the week, bar leaving them overnight once.

They still light up just about, but are dull as ditch water compared to what they where this time last week.

Thanks for all the responses, looks like battery powered lights weren't going to work for me. I ended up getting some mains powered ones from my local high street, all now installed on my mum's tree. Hopefully will be trouble free until the new year, have set them up with one of her remote control mains plugs so she can switch them on and off from her armchair.

Good plan! - sounds like thats the way to go, and good plan on the remote control plug.

(The reason the neighbours lights seem to last all season is they are only on for a short time each evening, shows how observant I am not)

Battery powered ones are ideal if you have kids etc or remote location.

Use rechargeable batteries, get one with a timer, and they last a week or so, depending on cold or not, just swap rechargeable. One I have has 4AA and works well enough.

I have 4 different sets of battery lights - all with timers, and all use rechargeable Duracell batteries of the same capacity.

1 set lasts 6 nights, 2 sets last about 3 nights, and the fourth lasts about1 and a bit nights.

The 6 nighter was the cheapest from B&M shop.

the 2 intermediate were from Amazon

the 1 nighter was the most expensive - from B&Q.

What a waste of batteries, and even with rechargeables, life in general.

Bought some battery LED lights in Wilko for Christmas last year. Had them on every day from about 2nd December to 6th Jan

Same batteries are still going strong this year in one set (which were static) but I replaced the batteries in the set which had various flashing modes etc after a day or so this year.

Handy, because the tree isn't close to a wall outlet and I didn't want more cables trailing around the room to where they are.

Think you dodged a bullet with those Eveready lights, I bought some last year and out of the box there were a few LEDS which did not work.
