Hello All, I'm thinking of getting a new Polo Gti + as a daily to do about 12,000 miles a year on mainly A and B roads with very little motorway driving. I've had a couple of MINIs the last being a John Cooper Works hatch with a 2l turbo which I liked a lot.

However I've got no experience of Polo Gtis or VWs at all and would be grateful for any comments and advice and any dealer recommendations.

I would be getting a new one with sunroof, rear camera and the winter pack in either red, white or black. They seem well put together.

Thanks.

I have a 2016 model. I went for the Polo as the build quality was good (I had Volvo's for years before) My experience with my local VW dealer has been good always done what asked and a couple of warranty issues sorted . I've done no mods or upgrades and run it stock. Good quite quick little car.

Fabia and Ibiza are the same car for a lot less money.

That's interesting - I didn't realise they made a 197bhp Fabia!?
Oh wait, they don't. It's ~110bhp max at the minute in the fabia.

So, Polo v Ibiza (Cupra). I think the polo might still be DSG only (there was talk of a manual at some point), with the option of 3 / 5 doors. Ibiza can be spec'd with manual gearbox (not even sure auto is an option - can't remember). Cupra is 3 door only.

GTI+ is not much better spec than the GTI. I think it's only the virtual dash that's different - but costs about £1500 more

Cupra used to come with the adaptive dampers as standard.

The polo certainly looks (in my eyes) more understated than the cupra, less chavvy.

There is no current generation Ibiza Cupra.

Cupra is a break away company now, currently you can only buy a Cupra Ateca, Cupra Leon is due for launch next month, also Formentor and Tavascan concepts.

The Cupra Ibiza had been "leaked" but it never came out as of yet.

I placed an order a couple of weeks ago after a test drive.

Felt solid, and quick enough. I do similar mileage so got to factor in fuel economy. I didn't intend on getting the +, but its gets you the digital dash, LED lights, tinted rear windows and keyless. Apart from the + pack, mine is going to be white. Expected July / August which suits me.

I have a 2019 Polo GTi+ in Reef blue, goes well, looks good, well equiped'ish (mine has climate control, reverse camera, winter "pack" and blind spot monitoring as extras, it was a car already with a build date when I ordered it), handles decently etc BUT it does have a few quality issues which seem common on them (howling brakes when reversing\slow maneuvering being the most common, also baddy fitted rear wheel arch liners which rubbed on the back wheel, that one is VERY common, sounded awful!), plus some others (rattles, shuddering on the motorway when coming off the power and then getting back on the power, even when using the ACC,drivers door mirror sounds like it's about to die when folding in\out, strange warbling noise coming from somewhere once up to about 30mph), I have a week off work next month so it will be going back in for the dealer to have another stab at it. Also myself and other owners have found the (wet clutch) DSG in it to be a bit jerky and unpredictable, more so than the (dry clutch) one my previous Leon had, which is very odd but it seems that's how VW have programed it to feel sporty I guess (though I have drove DSG Golf GTi's, S3's etc that were much smoother).

It is a nice car, just silly and annoying quality issues ruin the experience and VW dealers are not the best, hopefully when (if) the dealer sort out it's issues I will learn to love it, my Leon (FR Titanium SC 18.tsi DSG) was a much nicer and better built car though, I have sometimes found myself thinking I should have just got another Leon but I really wanted to have a GTi............

As already stated there is no Cupra Ibiza in the current model, it tops out at a 1.0tsi 3 pot turbo with 115bhp currently.

And the Fabia is on the old Polo platform, the "new" Fabia is just a facelift of the old one, no idea why VAG have done that.

You also get adaptive cruise control on the +, is actually one of my favorite things on the car, makes motorway driving much less stressful and as it's got a DSG box you get traffic assist as well, heavy traffic & jams are also much less of a ball ache with it.

Only problem is when you have another car with normal cruise control and take it on the motorway, you kind of forget a few times that YOU need to brake when someone slows down or cuts in front of you............ laugh

My ACC issue is that it essentially encourages you to sit in a line of cars if you catch somebody up, rather than overtaking - as you sometimes don't realise that you've slowed from 75 to 65mph (with conventional cc you'd keep it on and just overtake at a steady 75mph) I do like it on single carriageways though.

How are you finding it? Long wait for mine but now at Stage 2 (With the factory). Nearly bailed as I was tempted by a Cupra Leon, but have stuck to my guns and will await the Polo Gti - can't wait!
