Given the way Liverpool played in the last two seasons I honestly thought finally winning the league would spark something akin to what Man Utd did back in the early 1990's (i.e. with the "not winning the PL" monkey off their backs they'd go on to win several more). I therefore struggle to understand how their level has dropped so far in such a short period of time - yes they've had injuries but in losing six games at home they haven't scored a single goal and the main players they've been missing are defenders not strikers...

+1 I just popped in here to try and get my head around what is going on just from a neutral point of view.JNW1 said:

We have a system of playing - those injuries at the back have disrupted that, given the replacements don't play it as well. Playing a high defensive line is great when all 4 players are doing it well and any opposing breaks are offside. We are far less successful with that now. Also the forwards often had long balls from central defence feeding them. Also not happening too often now. Quite astonishing how quickly that system can appear to fail. But yeah - misfiring strikers don't help.Flip Martian said:

That is the really worrying part. I wouldn't mind having a makeshift back 4 playing as a flat back 4 feeding 4 in midfield and 2 up front when we're getting so caught out defensively, but clearly that's not going to happen - and for all I know there are great reasons why it shouldn't.I wonder if you'll even get Europa League? West Ham and Everton doing pretty well, Tottenham up there as well. Leicester, Chelsea and Utd to get the CL spots? I can't imagine not having Liverpool in Europe.
Long way to go yet and I genuinely hope you get in. I'm a Saints fan, so we're even worse

I actually hope if we don't get CL next season we drop low enough to not get EL.Long way to go yet and I genuinely hope you get in. I'm a Saints fan, so we're even worse
