Arseblog has done a good piece on Ozil today. MLS seems like a decent option for him. He is actually just a few days short of his 32nd birthday so he probably isn't too young to go there. His social media presence is absolutely massive and they love that kind of thing in the States. He could make an absolute fortune (not that he isn't already).

It will be interesting to see where he ends up. Will he take a significant pay cut and stay in Europe? I would have thought he would have plenty of potential suitors at 150k per week, but none (as has been proved) at 350k. I'm not even sure what kind of wages the big euro players get when they go to the MLS. Obviously China is out.

Maybe he could link up with Santi again in the middle East?!

His Turkish connections might make that problematical.......?

Santi is in Qatar so it wouldn’t be a problem - Qatar and Turkey are close allies. It’s Saudi Arabia and the UAE that now have beef with Turkey. It’s hard to keep up I know.

Re Ozil’s salary, he’s been earning ~£18m/year at Arsenal and must have been earning at least half of that at Madrid. Plus endorsements. The guy must have tens of millions in the bank so surely taking a pay cut won’t be that difficult for him.

I reckon serie A would suit his style and pace of play.

You'd think so and once he's out of contract then he won't have the option of taking a pay cut or staying put at arsenal.

Italy does make sense. Inter for instance would make a lot of sense.

Agree with all that.
He must have known he wasn't wanted at AFC, but like Bale he's been content to sit on his arse and take the money rather than do what it takes to make himself as available as poss to go somewhere else to be playing again on a regular basis.

It was discussed in depth on talksport this morning with Martin Keown.

The general consensus is that Ozil's head is shot and has no passion for the game.

Can’t remember where (I think it was David Ornstein on a Podcast) but the information was that during Lockdown Ozil wasn’t engaged during online team sessions and that Arteta sets the players homework which Ozil hasn’t been keen on. Clearly there’s two side to every story.

Personally I think the game has changed quite a bit in the last 5 years especially in the Premier League with the style of game that Guardiola and Klopp have brought in....it’s a game that demands athletes both on and off the ball. That’s just not Ozil’s game especially off the ball....with modern high intensity pressing games you just can’t have one player who’s not on it when you’re out of possession. The days of 4-2-3-1 with a No 10 sitting in an armchair are gone. It’s a bit like Hoddle back in the days of 4-4-2......was seen as a luxury by England.

I think he wasn't prepared to play with BLM on his shirt, nor take the knee.

The legend, think he's on Graham Norton as well this week so it will be interesting to see.

Anyone else have his new book winging its way to them? Mine should be here tomorrow. Not normally my kind of book but making an exception for the Prof.

I am thinking about listening to the Audiobook...he’s narrated it himself.

Add that to my Christmas list. I've read Tony Adams book, which I enjoyed.

Arsene is on Graham Norton tonight if anyone is interested. Not one of my usual shows but have never heard much from him outside of a football context.

On now, I’d usually rather be garrotted than watch Norton, but I’ll suffer it just the once.

Will Partey start against Man City, this is the question, i doubt it but you never know.

There is a long interview with the Gaffer here:

https://www.arsenal.com/news/preparations-complete...

Saliba is staying, it looks like it will be a last minute decision on whether Tierney can play against City.

I could have had ten attempts at naming the starting 11 and I still don't think I would have got this.

Pepe at centre forward is...... interesting. Midfield three with Saka in there. A back four and no David Luiz. That centre pairing of Gabriel and Holding is particularly interesting as that could, potentially, be the first choice central defense for the next few seasons if they get going.

I would think that would be a very fluid formation with Tierney coming inside to form a back three and Saka on the wing, amongst other things.

Edit - infact, the more I think about it, the more likely it think it is that this is actually a back three with Tierney, and Xhaka and Ceballos in midfield. Though exactly what we would expect except Pepe in for Laca and no Luiz.

Are we sure it's that and it's not Auba as the forward player?

Seems like an interesting (read: odd) line up, but I've thought that before and then we've come away with a win, so who knows. I actually quite like that back four and I *think* I like that midfield, lets see how they all do.

I'm torn on whether to feel disappointed about Partey not starting... On the one hand, he's only just arrived, but on the other hand, he's a professional athlete that's going to be doing exactly what he expects to be doing on the pitch and you'd imagine pretty much the same as he was doing for Athletico. Anyway, hopefully he comes on as a sub if we need him, or maybe next week.

It is bound to be Auba through the middle and more a 343 than a 433.
