Arsenal and Aston Villa have made official bids for Norwich's £40m-rated Argentine winger Emi Buendia, 24. (Sun) Express say £30m
Creative midfielder / right wing called up by Argentina but not used in last internationals. Hmm wonder if our ex-keeper will persuade him Villa is a better option...and seen as Grealish replacement?
Guess our ex-keeper did the business, and apparently Aston Villa show more ambition to become elite team...Creative midfielder / right wing called up by Argentina but not used in last internationals. Meanwhile.... Arsenal have missed out on another target too with Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard ‘understood to prefer a reunion at at Leicester City with Brendan Rodgers’.
Their failure to sign Edouard has seen the Gunners ‘turn to’ Ruben Neves, who has been ‘made available for transfer this summer as they seek to raise funds to refresh their squad under the incoming manager Bruno Lage’.
It is understood that Wolves rejected a bid of €60m at the end of Neves’ first season in the Premier League, while their valuation back then was said to be €80m.
Neves scored five goals and contributed one assist in his 36 Premier League appearances for Wolves this term.
Yup at the moment Neves is New Arsenal quality...

If it's any comfort, I do believe this one has been organised for a long time, months ago in fact. We wanted him in January but the Celtic board wouldn't let him go due to their situation.Leicester Loyal said:

Onana is currently serving a 12-month suspension after the banned substance, Furosemide, was found in his urine sample. He claims he took it by accident after it was prescribed to his wife.
Hmm great...

I guess AFC are in scraping the barrel mode now given the clubs situation.Onana is currently serving a 12-month suspension after the banned substance, Furosemide, was found in his urine sample. He claims he took it by accident after it was prescribed to his wife.

Villa linked with ward-prowse now for £30m - I really rate him and think £30m would be a good deal if we could nip in there.....but judging by how the buendia deal played out I am not sure we could pull it off, if he is even a player on arteta's radar (He should be imo)
He played every minute for his team, so too fit for us. Replacing Xhaka with similar type in JWP or Neves.
Don't see much point in it.
They aren't levels above him in my opinion.
Neves a bit more mobile.
JWP maybe better delivery but Xhaka can do long range passing and is decent at dead balls.
Apart from the above don't see much difference between these 2 and what Xhaka already brings.
We need to be bringing in players that are quite a bit better than what we have been linked with so far if we want to get back in top 4.

I think they are better under pressure, Xhaka is good when protected but pressure the default is the 2 yard pass or getting caught on the ballDon't see much point in it.

Which I've also seen the above 2 players do on occasion but probably not highlighted as much since they don't play for Arsenal.
Just think spending £30/40m+ on these guys doesn't offer us a massive gain over what we already have.
Buendia I would have been happy to pay that much as he seems to be a great player with 2 feet and assists and scores and a lot better than what we currently have.
JWP set pieces are substantially better than Xhaka' hence why he basically takes all corners and free kicks for Southampton. Our set piece delivery has been pretty average for a while now - the amount of times our (and many other teams in fairness) set piece deliveries fail to clear the first man is staggering! He would massively improve that area imo. I think the level that he would consistently perform at would also be higher than Xhaka over the season.....Plus of course JWP is 2 years younger than Xhaka (and Neves 4 years younger!) He is premiership proven, and English, which automatically sticks a premium on their transfer fee and he played every minute of Southamptons premier league matches last season. If that doesn't make him worth £15 more than Xhaka I don't know what does...!!

He'd been on AFC's medical table within 2 months of joining...... Arsenal is the last club a player with a history of not being injured should come to, as we'd be bound to turn him into injury prone wreck within a season......its about the only thing we seem to be good at these days

He’s been part of the malaise over the past few years so no great loss for me, as long as we replace him with someone better…
Lol. Replacing with someone better isn’t really in the Arsenal spirit of things these days I also wouldn’t be sad to see him go, but our midfield has generally been better with him in it this year.
I am struggling to see how we do better next year than this. We need real quality players in quite a few positions, and we need to be able to buy people that hit the ground running, not another Pepe who takes a couple of seasons to acclimatise.

Should we pay any attention to the fact that if the season had started Boxing Day 2020, we would have finished third behind Man City and Man Utd?
Add in;
PEA had a shocking season by his standards
ESR and BS & other youngsters with more experience next season
No Mustafi and Silva in defence any more
Partey to find his feet in the Prem
Pepe starting to look good
Add in a couple of good additions and who knows?

Pretty sure that in a league table from Boxing Day we were actually second behind only City by the end of the season. Lots of places reported Arsenal being 3rd in that particular table in Mid-May (3 points behind Utd) and we got 9 points from last 3 games vs 4 points for Utd. We still finished 8th in the other table though so it's a moot point! Add in;

And I presume you mean no more Mustafi and Luiz in defence?
I do largely agree with your point though. Plenty enough optimism ahead of the new season for me. Must be this hot weather!

Standard Arsenal fan really, we love convincing ourselves that next season will be different The disappointment of this season is still very much in my mind along with the nerves about ESR's contract, but you just know that soon I'll be just as optimistic about next season
