The Official Arsenal - 14 x Cup Winners Thread (Vol 5)
Discussion
Well in previous seasons (as far back as I care to remember) we have started well in the league before collapsing after Christmas leaving us with a mildly disappointing finish at the end.
This season we started awfully, before cobbling together some half decent performances after Christmas leading to a charge up the table (to 8th!) as the season finished.
If that isn't a reversal of fortunes and reason for next season optimism I don't know what is!
In all seriousness it did start to feel towards the end of the season like things were starting to come together- the Willian experiment was pretty much over, Pepe was starting every week and scoring goals, a lot of previous season's deadwood had been shipped out, promising youngsters had become fully-fledged starters and in the team on merit, Willock was having a blinder out on loan, our defence was looking reasonably solid, the team was starting to look pretty settled and there was genuine competition for places everywhere bar the midfield and left back.
If the forwards can find their shooting boots I'm more concerned about how the forwards / wide players will all get enough game time than I am about seeing any signings in those areas. Bring Willock into the team, sign another athletic midfielder who can carry the ball forward (not a static passer), get cover at left-back and lets crack on with the new season!

Should we pay any attention to the fact that if the season had started Boxing Day 2020, we would have finished third behind Man City and Man Utd?
Add in;
PEA had a shocking season by his standards
ESR and BS & other youngsters with more experience next season
No Mustafi and Silva in defence any more
Partey to find his feet in the Prem
Pepe starting to look good
Add in a couple of good additions and who knows?
And I presume you mean no more Mustafi and Luiz in defence?Add in;

And yes you are right with second, I picked up an out of date google article :-)
If you take the calendar year table for 2021 we are fourth, ahead of Chelsea who you would have thought had a stormer in later part of season

Also note the 2nd best defence.
Though when we discussed this with a mate he did say, well we only performed when we had nothing to play for - so typical optimism lol

Reading an article about the 2004 euros and I wonder if this line narks Spurs fans
“ To this day, the incident still grinds Campbell.
Speaking to Ladbrokes at the launch of their new Euro 2020 5-a-Side bet, the former Arsenal defender said: "We played a really good game but it just came down to that referee decision.”
9 years at Spurs vs 5 at Arsenal

At least, we can look up the road and be amused at the just as big a farce going up up there.
Latest in media is their are talking to ex-Roma manager Fonseca, who was replaced as Roma manger by Maureen, who the Spuds just sacked....!
Talk about barrel scraping.....
You can tell no one wants to go near that Club, Levy, no money and lots of disgruntled fans to deal with!Latest in media is their are talking to ex-Roma manager Fonseca, who was replaced as Roma manger by Maureen, who the Spuds just sacked....!

Everyone said, Levy always has a plan, he doesn't sack a manager etc unless he already had someone in place to replace them etc.
Well, it looks very much like Levy's plan (if indeed he did have one) fell apart pretty much as soon as Maureen walked out the door.
Levy will be driving down to Sandbanks and knocking on 'Arry's door soon

Various whispers around Ben White (doubtful), would you say buy another CB or use Saliba and Mavrapanos? I'd say use the youngsters but I can't work out what's going down at the Emirates
For the first time in years I don't think we need any more CBs. We need a RB to replace Bellerin, but our defence is actually kinda of okay. It's our midfield that needs work, we need a better connection to the forwards, surely the club can see that?! leglessAlex said:

If the media are to be believed Villa offered 25m for ESR, which thankfully got rejected. Arsenal offered 40m for Ben White but Brighton rejected that. Hope to see some new signings but is a CB required? Surely other positions are a priority.
They can offer what they like I suppose, but 25m?! If Brighton are shrugging off 40m for Ben White and James Madison is rumoured to be more like 60-70m then where does 25m for one of the best young English players in the league come from? Anyway, the chances of him going anywhere are basically zero. He's a first 11 player now, he doesn't need to move. Hopefully his contract will be sorted sharpish.

The Spuds thread lol........
You almost feel sorry for them..........Well, OK, not really
Had a message from an old work mate, so known him since late 80's, and he's been a Spud for as long as I've known him, and a season ticket holder as well for most of those years....and he's so disenchanted with Levy and the st show that the club has turned into this year, and as he's lived out in Rickmansworth for past 10 odd years, he's just told me that he's bought a season ticket for Watford for next season instead. His BiL is a long time Watford fan, and he got a seat with him. He said fk Levy.
