Arteta having the hump with the interviewer and suggesting they were a victim of poor refereeing has shades of Chemical Ali.

I've had plenty of issues with refereeing in the PL in general this season, but didn't see many (any?) howlers in that game. Architects of our own downfall.

Fair play to those of you on here that admit Arsenal only had themselves to blame for tonight's loss.

You have certainly got more class and honesty than your manager has.

He’s hardly going to say Holdings weave was on too tight and fked us up in this match and next, that Cold Sores made Tavares look solid, that Saka should have been rested as clearly was out on his feet from the start, that trying to run an entire season (even without Europe) with 11 good players was a big risk, and selling/loaning out the rest was an ever bigger risk. Oh well normal service resumed.

Good summary

Then throw this in to add...

https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/tota...

A lot of work needed here.

It could come down to goal difference after the last two games. Odds aint in our favour.

Its been a hard few weeks a Chelsea fan. Ambramovich, threat of government shutting club down, out of the UCL, dropping point all over the place, 4th place looking shaky....

I needed a good laugh today, thanks, Arsenal hehe

Hats off to Holding for his entry to muppet of the month, Son played him like a fiddle. Cedric is stealing a living as a defender so congratulations to his agent for pulling that off. The game was over at 30 minutes. I see no blame attached to anyone or anything apart from our players.

Hugely disappointing but sadly predictable. When the dust settles on the season even 5th is an improvement and a step in the right direction I think.

Defeats to Spuds hurt, they would hurt if it was over a game of tiddly winks, but last nights really hurt. rage

However, if someone had said at the start of the season that we'd still have CL qualification in our hands with two games to go then we'd have jumped at it as it is a big step forward on previous years dross and even if we do finish 5th then that is still an improvement.

All we really learned last night is that outside of our first choice 11 the backups aren't good enough or reliable enough when called upon so we know that squad improvement is required. We're on the beginning of a journey that has taken a long time to start but it at least feels like at long last it is starting.

There was a little irony lost on him as you had postponed the game because your 'best' players were missing, and then not holding committed 5 yellow worthy and one red worthy foul.

I think Arteta told him to get tight, to rough Son up a little, he certainly didn't like getting rolled by Son once we'd weathered your first 10-15 min onslaught, hence the cheeky kick in the back, the holding, the shirt pulls.

For what it's worth, I still think you have the advantage and will finish 4th. Playing after spurs will help, but you know you've got to win both games anyway. Newcastle and Everton can both be tough on the day, Spurs are bound to lose to Norwich on the last game... biggrin

Just from a neutral perspective the ref has ruined the game. Two fairly soft fouls adding up to a sending off 20 mins into a highly anticipated London Derby ffs.
From a neutral perspective, Holding is the only one who's ruined this game. He was all over the place, and fouled Son 4 times in 30min.
Well said. I do like the mis-interpretation that somehow the ref ruined the game by enforcing the rules! LOL. Should he have let Holding elbow and push Son as much as he'd wanted through the whole game?

Cedric challenge wasn't a penalty.

Holding challenge wasnt a yellow, but he had made 3 prior to that, so he had a warning. Son is too smart/Holding isnt a smart enough foul-er to win that battle (looking at you Harry Kane you dirty bd).

Still, NUFC and Everton....its in our hands, but I Sterling and Jesus are clearly watching before signing...

The penalty was a pretty blatant shove in the back, in the box, while contesting the ball. You'd want that given if it was the other way around.

As for the first yellow, it wasn't given for the very obvious foul itself, but an accumulation of thick fouls. The second yellow could have been a straight red, so I can't see that you'd have anything to complain about.

The 1st yellow, yes, the second could have been straight red as you say, no complaints here.

The penalty, Son kicked his legs out, it was never a penalty. If so, every corner should be a penalty also. I wondered why VAR wasnt used.

That said if it was at the other end of the pitch...

So are you saying Holding should or shouldn't have been sent off? He clearly should have is the correct answer btw.

Adam.

I assume VAR checks any penalty decision but only gets involved if clear oand obvious error (which that wasnt)

Should. Son is too smart and Holding isnt proficient enough in the dark arts of dirty defending.
