Rice is just a matter of time in my opinion before he signs, however Havertz I seriously don't get.
Have the club not seen this guy play for the last few season, I don't care if he's been played out of position, he is a waste of money and won't offer any thing more to what we don't already have.
No way we should be spending £60+m on this guy.

Really hope we don't sign this guy and spend the money elsewhere.
Havertz. Not paying 70-75 million for a starter. But there is a player in there. Saw something this am explaining he will be cover for Saka on the left wing, not upfront. Also, Pepe is getting interest from Saudi Arabia, as they are the only ones who will pay his wages.

Same here, unless something goes drastically wrong with us and he is sacked or he wins some big trophies and needs a new challenge, I don't see him leaving.
He's at the perfect club for this stage of his career and development who are allowing him a lot of freedom and trust in delivering his vision.

The broadsheets today:

Looks like Xhaka is packing his bags for Germany.

Havertz has agreed personal terms and its all about the fee.

I like Havertz but if it's anything more than about £40m I'm not that fussed. Don't know if he's going to be better than Trossard and I think we really need a striker.

Bored of this transfer window already yuck

Agreed on the boredom of the click bait titles. I’m coming back to football in July when hopefully we have done all our business.

Ashes time instead!

I take this is a Adidas related transfer?

I thought he played on the other side? So we have backup for Saka and Martinelli.

I’m reasonably trusting that whoever we buy, they’re going to be the right fit and play well. We’ve done some great business over the last couple of seasons, I don’t know if it’s a huge change in the scouting or just luck, but for the first time in ages I trust AFC to get it right.

A little worried if Xhaka goes before we get the Rice deal done, that would be a disaster in the making.

I was excited but I'm a bit hesitant now as we could be losing Partey as well as Xhaka.

Rice, Jorginho, El Neny, Havertz isn't that strong anymore.

I've seen talk of Lavia, but he's only a kid yet.

If we buy Havertz which then gives Chelsea the funds/ffp to buy Caciedo, that would be a really dumb move.

If Partey/Xhaka leaves, we need to get Rice and Caciedo or similar quality.

Letting Balogun go instead of Eddie will be another own goal as well.

It feels like we are in that stage again where we only need 1/2 top class players to push on but aren't getting them and going for lesser quality and helping rivals get targets in the process.

Yes cover for Saka assuming Arteta lets him have more than 5 mins off the entire season...

Trossard is a bit bitey I'd happily drop him in Xhaka box to box role especially as Trossard appears to know how to track back/ break up play which saw only flashes from Xhaka last season... and his interplay with Jesus could be cloud9

Selling Partey is just down right dumb, he enables the rest of midfield and wing back to marauade with confidence, when he wasn't there to sweep or was tired/carrying a knock we suffered. Jorginho has the brains but lacks the muscle of Partey to break up play too.

Most Chelsea fans will tell you he's pretty crap. They'll bite your hand off at £40m so that they can reinvest it in their squad.

Most Chelsea fans don't have a clue so I'm not worried.

I get the concerns, it's a lot to lose both Xhaka and Partey but I can understand letting Partey go, he's broken. He can't play 30+ games in the PL. What's the use of having another Diaby?

We definitely need Rice in at this point.

Don't get the Diaby comparison, Partey missed 5 games in the EPL (3 for thigh issue and 2 "non specific" later in the season)

A quick look at our squad EPL stats for last season suggest using injury (or not used) as a factor to sell points to others before Partey

Tierney was unused on the bench for 11 EPL

Classed as injured so unavailable to play:
Zin missed 11 EPL
Saliba missed 11 EPL
Jesus missed 12 EPL
Tomi missed 15 EPL
Reiss Nelson missed 16 EPL

(stats from www.transfermarkt.co.uk)

I get Partey's 30 and only 2 years left on contract, so allowing him to talk to Saudi clubs makes financial sense, just watching us play without him doesn't make football sense to me especially if we could get him to retire from Internationals.

I'm not saying there aren't other concerns specifically with injury. Tomi and Tierney are other concerns/big losses and the likelyhood is one of those is on the way out too.

What I am saying is Partey is fairly integral so we need to have a replacement, potentially above him, regardless of if he stays and plays, stays and doesn't play or goes.

The Diaby comparison I was going to admit as a bit of an exaggeration, which it definitely is to Diaby's last 4 or so seasons. That said in Diaby's "fit" seasons he managed (games played) 28, 36, 40, 20 an average of 31 games a season. Partey in his 3 with us has 33, 26, 40 an average of 33 which isn't that far off and only looks worse when you consider he averaged 46 games for Atletico the 3 seasons before.

Jorghino appears to be the cover if Partey stays, so agreed we need a more long term solution replacing both- not too worried re Partey fitness especially if can get him to knock off international trips.

We do seem to break a lot of players as they join e.g. Jesus, Zin, Tomi etc or we don't assess them properly or still using Wenger finance risk it and see what happens?

Yeah I've seen the prices now, and it really feels typically skewed against Arsenal.

Why do we never seem to get a bargain? When we're buying why does the price only ever go up? When we're selling the fee only ever seems to go down?

When we were first linked with Mount it was looking at £60m-£70m, now we aren't United are in for him at £40m? Err what?

Havertz "rated" at £50m-£60m with a view to revive his career and now we're potentially in for him it's "£75m is too low" and "player in his prime". Come again? Bellingham was only a few mil more.

Rice was £70m not long ago. We're now talking £90m-£100m PLUS a player. I mean, if it was Mari or Tavares maybe but they're talking ESR. If Havertz is a £80m player, ESR is £50m. That puts Rice as the 3rd most expensive transfer ever.

God I hate transfer windows. wobble
Just glimpsed a headline about Kovacic to Man City for £25m and my mind immediately came to this post last week! I haven't bothered to check the details of his outstanding Contract term etc - however, £25m seems very reasonable and there is no fanfare or drawn out furore (yet). Can you imagine Kovacic from Chelsea to Arsenal for £25m?
