Sure Sky did this years ago, I was paying for the full package then they started charging for 'selected' matches. Cancelled my subscription then and just watched MOTD and now EFL on Quest!
PL is about the clubs, not the fans! I hope this bites 'em on the arse!!

i will not be paying extra, i would if it was £5 but £14.99 is an absolute joke, i remember the really big draw boxing ppv events where around that price. The problem is if they get enough people paying for pretty dull games like Newcastle vs united they will be then thinking ooooohhh we can add an extra tenner on to other ppv like boxing.

i think in America for a mayweather fight they where charging $100 for ppv.

Not a chance will I pay £15 . I think football clubs have lost sight of finances for working people.

I'll be finding a stream for the Leicester, United and Chelsea streams if I can be bothered, and thankfully* our (Arsenal) game is on live, as is the Merseyside Derby which is the other one I really want to watch this weekend.

*I'm not really sure why I'm saying thankfully, playing City is never much fun to watch, even if we're ahead I'm usually too stressed to enjoy it hehe

Growing movement to boycott PPV, find a dodgy stream and donate the money to a local Foodbank instead. I volunteer with the Leeds United Fans Foodbank and we have had over £18k in donations this week, Geordies raised £20k for their foodbank collection. Sends a message to the broadcasters

No, paid ~£220 to keep Arsenal season ticket (funny they've been very quiet since possible ballot to return to ground didn't occur...) and just send updates of which game is being dicked around with date/time wise on tv, no offer of free or discounted matches like last season.*

I had already dumped BT as they use a random increase generator if you are loyal, even when saying "renew at same price" it just got ridiculous per month and I rarely made the family suffer watching it. So no thanks, my mate does but he's always watched more on tv even when we were getting to attend matches.

  • However I am going to the emirates for an away match screening inc meal £49 as a birthday treat...no discount for season ticket holder obvs...but other than that no thanks. The ppv reminds me how my interest in cricket dwindled as it went across to early Sky, and golf, F1 and MOTOGP...I'll record the highlight programmes on free channels, olus feels like breaking the habit of football, not sure I will bother to return as I'd rather go out on the MTB or a social game of golf... or lazy day watching the BTCC live on tv or attending once allowed...

The cost to watch football at the moment is outrageous.

35 quid a month for NowTV for Sky
25 quid a month for BT
Amazon Prime membership (though we have it anyway)
And now 15 quid a game for PPV?!

Definitely going to drive a lot to piracy. Says something that sky and bt refused to announce viewing figures last weekend. Probably because they are very poor!

Genuinely think there should be a Government/CMA intervention. Mandate that games are licensed on a non exclusive basis so that there is genuine competition between BT / Sky / Amazon. Team specific subscriptions would then be possible - say 40 quid a month for all televised Arsenal games.

Sure there would be less money in the game but would that really be such a bad thing? Transfer fees / wages etc are mad enough as it is.

What is IPTV?
It stands for Internet Protocol Television. Simply put, it's the technical term for streaming via the internet.

In fact, many major TV providers have already adopted the service themselves - think Netflix, NowTV and Amazon. Even the BBC uses IPTV with its iPlayer service.

These are completely legal services which you pay a fee to access as an alternative to a cabled or satellite connection.

Or, if you want the more boring version......

Indeed but to then access Premier league football through an IPTV service requires piracy...

Unless you mean you are somewhere foreign where it is much cheaper!

Ashley makes a statement about Newcastle’s opinion. Personally I just think he’s getting in early but trying to apply his pile it high, sell it cheap approach that’s worked so well in his retail businesses

In the same breath at least he’s saying something unlike the other chairmen who seem to want to continue with it.

No I won't, imo £15 is taking the mickey! I've donated to the Vichai Foundation for the two Leicester games (is it a coincidence that Leicester publicly disagreed with the ppv approach and are then on ppv 2 weeks consecutively?) and streamed them instead.

Tbf I'm glad I didn't pay for the game against Villa, it was bad enough watching it for free!

Can see it being reduced to like £6.99 or £7.99 in the next few weeks, then it'll be lauded as a 'win' for the fans.

£4.95 isn't bad per game, but it still comes back to the fact that to be a UK based football fan, you get the raw deal. Usually, no matches at 3pm and as of now, extra £15 to watch a days football.

Mate in US has just paid an extra fiver on his subscription PER MONTH for all the games, of which usually, he gets the 3pm games on NBC.

I know they don't want to lose people going to matches to sit at home on the TV, but honestly how many people just go to watch the match because it's not on TV? I'd say most go to games for the things you can't get from watching football on Tv

I thought the government allowing it to continue made the availability of all matches a requirement? Either way it would be daft not to show them, as there will be cameras at every match showing it to a global audience.
