It'll never be banned (well it might be for kids) but head gear will be mandatory like shin pads are now.
Under 12’s are no longer allowed to practice heading, I can remember doing heading practise for 20 minutes every week from the age off 9 with them rock hard moulded plastic stingers.Suppose It will all depend on the outcome off the scientific studies that are taking place just now.
I hope it’s not banned, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was.

And yet 2 blokes punching each other in the head in a ring won't be!
I can't see players having headgear, it's hard enough to control a ball with your round head, let alone with something attached to it.
It's the repetitive nature that causes the issue, you get less brain injuries in MMA because they get KO'd more rather than an extra 50 punches to the headI can't see players having headgear, it's hard enough to control a ball with your round head, let alone with something attached to it.
Boxers also have 2-3 fights a year, footballers are playing twice a week
Thiago Silva complained of headaches after joining the PL which was interesting as I hadn't imagined we were much worse than Europe but apparently so

Is it still an issue with much lighter balls? I know the numbers for players now in their 70s are bad.
Yes:www.bbc.com/sport/amp/football/56167797
Life has risks is the counter argument to all of that though. If you dont like to risk brain damage later in life dont be a footballer, no one forces it on you.
People can still box if they fancy, can race motorbikes, mountain climb, eat too much, ride horses etc. The list of things which could cause you harm is endless.

Or make changes to the game so it doesn't cause irreparable brain traumaPeople can still box if they fancy, can race motorbikes, mountain climb, eat too much, ride horses etc. The list of things which could cause you harm is endless.
In F1 when someone nearly died they created the Halo and its subsequently likely saved a life
After Simoncelli and others Airbags were developed for MotoGP race suits
Horse riders wear helmets after numerous head injuries
Why would you not adapt?

Because helmets and halos aren't an option in football. You would have to change the game massively. No longer the same game without headers.
Some sort of protective headgear is a possibility though. I’m not necessarily pro or anti it, but it would be interesting to see. I remember an April Fools years ago with Ruddock wearing something like that. Let players decide if they want to take the risk.
Players in the past didn't know the risk and were only paid relatively modest amounts. Now in old age they're suffering for that.
The kids now do know the risks and are paid handsomely, meaning they ought to be able to care for themselves later in life if their career catches up with them. If they don't want to play football because of the risk, fair enough.

Surely only an idiot would think I was suggesting actual helmets or halos in football
Petr Cech played for years in a protective head covering
The moment players express an interest Nike/Adidas will all be producing lightweight protective ones if required the tech is there, the biggest arguments would likely come from sponsorship space on the headwear and people doing a predator style effect to get extra spin on headers or somesuch
Its a bit like not quitting smoking because you've smoked since Docs thought it was ok, ahh fk this new evidence crack on lads
To say I am not in either camp but I do believe it will become a bigger issue and if you want to keep headers in the game then this may well be the route it goes

Think it was Unident mentioned Razor Ruddocks April fool joke earlier - a quick Google and apparently Predator wasn't laughing as they had already developed one.Edit:................ http://backpagefootball.com/remember-the-adidas-he...
