Cavani. Goodness me. Just knows how to play as a striker.

BAU really

I do wonder if Mason scores that goal pre Cavani, he just looks like he's improving in the box to me

Comeback kings do it again!
Just delaying the obvious really till midweek but good to see the team perk up. Why can't we win at half time though lol.

McGuire might be a doubt but if Bailly and Lindy fit I'm ok with that. Reserves v Leicester and first team vs scousers ?

Top 4 finish now confirmed and 2nd place virtually sealed with goal difference with one more win. CL football regardless of the final should help take some pressure off on the night.

Yeah, that has to be the plan. Just keep the main team on the Thurs - Sun - Thurs schedule and try to cobble something together for Tuesday. Has the unfortunate side effect of being unfair on the scousers, but hey ho I'll get over it.

Good performance mostly today, bit of a freak goal to concede albeit after some pretty timid defending but we've seen it before and come back time and time again. It's almost ritualistic now. Fingers crossed for HM, did anyone else think it was a bit cynical the way the villa player 'fell' into him. Maybe I'm being paranoid but it did seem like he shifted his weight to hit HM after he was fouled. HM would have had to have been rested on Tuesday anyway, but hopefully he's not out longer.

Cavani cloud9

Greenwood cloud9

If I was Mason I’d be following Cavani round everywhere on the training pitch and then going to his house for tea to soak up every bit of information I could get from him. I was unsure about him signing at the start of the season but fk me, what a striker he is. Sheer class.

Send the reserves out against Leicester.

Unsure about Cavani? His record before us has been tremendous, I was over the moon when we signed him!! Problem is we need players like him and Zlatan 3/4 years before we actually get them!

Purely an age thing and if he could do it in the Prem. just seemed a bit of a desperate signing at the time, which it still may have been but worked out perfectly. I’m now 100% in love with the guy though biggrin

The narrative at the time was very much that we'd fked up the Sancho transfer and so desperately brought him in for some firepower, classic Woody

Cavani is a useful addition but Utd are pretty strong up front anyway. It’s the championship standard defence that would worry me.
Maguire is still playing like a donkey and Lindelof is out of his depth in the PL. Can’t even remember the others they are that good.
Midfield isn’t exactly consistent either but is transformed on the days Pogba can be bothered.

Disagree. Cavani is our only striker that can play the role. Greenwood will get there but isn’t there yet. Rashford isn’t a striker. Martial is a joke.

And less losses than City. Our defence isn’t as bad as a lot make it out to be and has improved hugely this season.

I think we defend well but dont have good CBs. We have a good record but, when tested, our CBs get skinned (Maguire) or bullied (Lindelof).

Individual defensive errors will always be made and will always be highlighted

I take being tested as the course of a season, it removes all the outliers and the 'HM is st' memes and just shows that as a defensive unit we are really quite good

3rd best defence BUT we have to play with 2 cdm or they get destroyed.

Which is what needs rectifying this summer by getting Declan Rice if we can in some kind of deal with Lingard. Fred isn’t good enough.

Midfield is absolutely key for me, I think we are Unicorn hunting a bit though as we need an absolute beast to accommodate PP

I agree. Right wing and midfield should be our priority this summer smile

What do you think will happen with Garner next season? He’s been fantastic for Forest. Likely a loan to a prem team to see how he gets on imo.

Its a strange one. The stats show we have been good defensively this year, but whenever I watch us we seem to make a lot of individual mistakes, and I feel we give up loads of chances for teams to shoot. Im not sure if its the CB's not being good enough, or lack of protection in midfield?

The midfield two is something we need to resolve in the summer. McSauce or Fred seeming cant really play together and neither offers the protection in front of the CB or the creativity going forward and ball retention. I like McSauce so Fred would need to be replaced.
