You've won a European title and are 8th (currently).

It's very fine margins at this level. Preferring to finish 17th but be entertained is easily said. What about 18th?

Moyes makes some odd decisions at times. And that net spend figure is surprising. But who do you guys think is going to do better?

Being careful what you wish for was never so pertinent.
Why is it a binary decision? There are teams on lower budgets than West Ham, who adapt their playing style to the game in hand, who are not 17th or 18th. Again this is a media perception spread about that the only way West Ham can succeed is to play a low block and that if we play more attacking football we will get relegated.

You look at how the fans respond when a team goes out and tries to get a win like against Leverkusen. We got knocked out but look at the reaction of the fans, they saw their team give it a go, thats all thats asked, but is so often never delivered.

I think its obvious West Ham can do better than winning 4 out of the last 21 games, yes.

  • Wife's Diary:*
Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner.

I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it.

Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk.
He agreed, but he didn't say much.

I asked him what was wrong. He said, "nothing."

I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset.

He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it.

On the way home, I told him that I loved him.

He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can't explain his behaviour.
I don't know why he didn't say, “I love you, too.”

When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore.
He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent.

Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep; I cried.
I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

  • Husband's Diary:*
Who the f*** concedes 5 goals against Palace!!!!

Can'y be arsed dealing with fans of other clubs coming on who've never watched us week in week out and simply proving they don't know what they don't know...so here's something different.
Son is doing sports management at Sheffield Uni, and one of his modules has been the treatment of academy players (close to his heart and done some interviews with his old coaches), but the other has been analysing the financial position of our club.
Some of the stats he's come up with are astonishing.

Match day revenue has doubled since our move, from £20 million in the last season at UP to £40 million.( No real surprise with the increased capacity, although we don't get anything out the food and drink like previously)

16th place in 2020 gained us £82,500,000 in broadcasting revenue, and yet by finishing 6th the following year that DOUBLED to £163 million... that is mind boggling.(Apparently TV broadcast money is done on a 50/25/25 ratio, 50% divided equally among clubs, 25% based on league positions and 25% on TV appearances.).
TV is currently 70% of our turnover and in 2019 we received a staggering 100 million pounds more than Aston Villa who were still in the Championship.

First year in the Europa league getting to the semi earned £27.5 million, yet winning the ECL only gained £13 million.

City/Pool and Man Utd sponsorship deals are worth circa £50 million PA more than ours, Spurs/ Arse/Chelski circa £40 million more, mainly due to us not owning the stadium and hence not having a proper stadium sponsor, pretty much a player difference on it's own

I couldn't give a toss where we finish in the league, 8th to 17th? Who cares, nobody remembers that. Where did we finish in 1975 or 1980? No idea, but we did win the Cup with a side full of names we can still reel off as if it was yesterday.

Moyes has taken the joy out of watching our team, who wants to see eleven blokes line up in rows waiting to either concede or launch it forward. 28% possession shouldn't get you to 8th in the "best' league in the world.
And why does he persist with it when on occasion, like the Leverkusen and Freiberg home games we show what we can do when set up on the front foot.
As for his squad, substitute and man management skills, well clearly not great.
And even if we did finish 18th, wouldn't be the first time and at least playing in the Championship I wouldn't have to tolerate the utter clowns I was sat next to at the Fulham game who couldn't name a single player and were all wearing half and halfs.

Unfortunately other teams fans just wont ever get it. They are so heavily influenced by social media and main stream media commentary informing them, but with the main stream media currently fawning over Moyes (the main stream which spends 80% of its airtime talking about the top 6 and barely takes a look in any depth at other teams) because they don't actually know the real issues, other teams fans fall into the same bucket of misinformation as we have seen here.

There is no binary decision here, most teams in the Prem expect a turgid low block against City, but more expansive football against Sheff Utd. We very rarely see the latter, its the same eleven, with the same turgid tactics, week in week out.

Every club's TV revenue massively increased from 2020-2021. There was a new TV deal and COVID. Not because you finished 10 places higher.

TV revenue is actually 62% of turnover.

Comparable London club's, Spurs, Arsenal & Chelsea have 4-5 times greater commercial revenue. Stadium naming only counts for a small part (maybe 15%) and only Arsenal in fact even have a naming deal. The differences in commercial revenue are down to international profiles of the club (note how West Ham incorporated "LONDON" into their badge back in 2017 to enhance their marketability).

The real outlier is the stadium revenue of just £47m. That's 2-3 times less than the other leading London clubs who have similar or smaller capacities. Do they get to keep all matchday revenue and concessions as part of the stadium deal?

As said earlier, no, they don't earn anything from the the food and drink sales.

Not bothering today, gave my tickets away.
Still at least we might get back to talking about matches rather than being told careful what wish for by those those that simply don’t get it,or someone dissecting a few financials and getting it wrong. I couldn’t be arsed to reply.. I just told the source at the club that kindly checked Bens research they was wrong and someone on the net was right.

laugh rise above it, sjc - I think we've all enjoyed the recent bit of silverware in the cabinet and we've all had a great few European season's but Moyes himself must know he's a busted flush now and it's time to move on. COYI!

You're missing anything so far, especially with Ali McCoist draining the life out the commentary.

That was me I think - knowing us, we’d bin Moyes and end up with Mourinho.
