The thing is though I doubt anyone in the city thread will spend the following 24 hours slagging off Liverpool like tsome here have City.

FFS we are having this conversation right now because two of you have come in our thread (instead of watching your victory parade) to tell us that Haaland isn't expensive and that we should appreciate your success.

Don't really get the Pep hate. He's raised the bar wherever he's gone. OK, so now he's perhaps using cheat codes but he's still making it work. He's never had to do it the hard way, is that his fault?

The "Legend" stuff might be a bit strong but they've won 4 in 5 years tbf.

He and Klopp were both generous and respectful in their comments at the end of the season. It's a rivalry that's pushing the game on to new levels. Do I wish we were winning these titles? Absolutely. I'm equally impressed at how we're managing to run them so close. And this season we're fighting on all fronts, which is remarkable.

I'm wondering how many goals they'll get in the Prem next year with a proper striker. 110? 120?

No bar raised at Bayern

Took over a treble winning side who'd won the league by 25 points (treble including the cl) and was brought in to make them dominate Europe

First season won the league, by just 18 points, then 10-10 before going to city. He lost in three semi finals in the cl. Battered by real in his first season. Pummeled by Barca season two and then got simeone'd season three out on away goals.

Stats fans will like to know that they won the league by 15 points the season after he went. (21 year after)

The problem with stats is that they don't mean much without context. I dont follow the Bundesliga, but went to have a look. I picked one of Pep's season when he "only" won by 10 points to have a look.

They got 88 points that season. In a 34 game season. They "only" won by 10 points because Dortmund got 78......

This, you are suggesting, is a failure?

I applaud your standards.

It's par score for Bayern to walk the league. He failed to raise the bar. He failed to dominate in Europe. Worse ways to fail of course. His record in leagues is superb. I was just pointing out he didn't raise the bar there

Yep, shame fans can’t do the same but rivalries are always felt most by the fans I guess

Wouldn't be much of a rivalry if we all played happy families.

That applies to any sport.

You seem to enjoy an internet argument, which is your prerogative of course.

I just find it often derails interesting chat

Moving on...

How confident is everyone feeling about Saturday?

Speaking of, does anyone know anyone in need of a ferry crossing and hotel room? I can't make it over there now.

I've felt for a while we have been going off the boil and the legs have started to run out of gas. I felt we were very emotional yesterday which added to the tiredness, so it will be interesting how we respond.

Thiago is a big loss, can't see him playing as he won't be fully fit. Really means we need Fab and I'd also argue it means we should go with firmino to ensure we have that extra bit if control. If we do, then it means one of Salah, mane and Diaz don't start.

I'd go with

Ali, Trent, Virgil, konate, robbo, fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Salah, firmino, mane

Matip losing out on pace only. Hendo playing near Trent to help him out with vinicius.

I'd swop a fit Thiago for Keita in an instant. Also think Klopp may go Diaz mane salah

Sport = Competition = Rivalry = Disagreement.

The internet is simply a medium.

The PH fans of teams Liverpool has genuine rivalries with, Utd and Everton, seem pretty decent, by and large.

I wanted Everton to stay up for the sake of the city and Utd being competitive would make things more interesting.

I've never met any Spurs fans in real life that are like the ones on here, and I don't know any City fans.

I was confident when Real became our opponents.

It's been dwindling ever since.

Yea, Mane and Salah haven't really been at their best since AFCON. We really need at least one of them to show up on Saturday.

I agree that Thiago is a big loss, which just shows how much he's come on in our team this season!

I do think we'll do it though. Their defence really isn't that great.

And if have Matip partnering VVD (if fit).

Not very if I’m honest

General fatigue
Winning through determination rather than dominance or play levels
Salah still in poor form
Firmino was bloody awful on Sunday
Thiago and Fab fit?
Heads might be down slightly

Against a RM side that know how to win and have had 2? weeks off to rest

We (and I) have done similar in the past before, it doesn't mean you don't appreciate the success, it just means you want to put something straight you think is "wrong", and have a bit of time to waste. I'm also not sure where this "if you post on a forum it means you can't be watching the game/the parade" - most people have a TV/laptop/phone combination that means they can do both!

I'm more concerned about where the money comes from related to the human rights abuses. It's also concern about the likely further increase in cost of watching football as companies try to get money back from the fans, as it gets spent on a few people's wages. But that's a bigger problem than just City, as we're part of it when compared to a lot of clubs too.

Good post Adam - sums it up for me. This will be a particular issue against RM's attackers, who from the last games have the pace and skill to break quickly, which is our defence's weakness. If the striker stays onside and gets a quick ball through into the space as we're pressing high - that's when we're most in trouble.

Agreed i'm not feeling very confident with Thiago and Fab possibly out. Keita and Milner in midfield is just worrying against Madrid. I'm also worried about Vinicius against TAA with his pace. We've also looked very leggy in the last few weeks and to me we haven't had the usual flowing pass and move that leads to goals.

The flip side is the last few games have been against teams sitting back a lot so we haven't had much space to be more fluid - not sure if RM will be playing with as many people behind the ball.

Agree on the fatigue. I do remember the comment on tv on Sunday talking about team selection etc and some of the reasoning being "because you don't want players having 2 weeks off before a game as they lose sharpness". Have to hope that plays a part.

I'd be more optimistic with Thiago and Fab fit. I would also put Firmino back in. If we're toothless up front put Diaz on in place of whoever is worst. They'll all be mentally fired up for this one though - Mo said as much when he said "we all wanted RM".
