Excuse me for using a discussion forum to express an opinion that varies from what Juergen says in his press conferences rolleyes

Wind your neck in, being worried about a team weakness (massively so vs City) does not equate to not supporting the team or manager

Apparently feasible that he could play there. But not without some adjustment in playing style I guess.

I'd love to know why we've had so many injuries so early on though.
It was a long season with many games, not sure if that has anything to do with it maybe?

Makes about as much sense as putting Hendo and Fab in central defence… oh wait, we already did that when we lost all our central defenders… and look how that worked out.

Keita will do his usual and get injured in the next few games and then our MF will be totally fked. Chances of seriously challenging done inside the first month.

The point about TAA isn't directly comparable to Hendo and Fab in CD. TAA used to be a midfielder and it is often said he plays full back as if he was actually in midfield. Not ideal - not saying he is a world class midfielder ready to be used - but he's more of a midfielder than Hendo or Fab were CBs.

Pep or JK has already acknowledged they were wrong to take Hendo and Fab out of midfield anyway, so they're unlikely to make that - or a similar - mistake again.

Well no, they get the summer off. Could still be a hangover from last season but really, if they ended the season fit, had a break and came back, they would normally be ok...

My neck is firmly in, and has been for the last 40 years.
Writing a season off after 1 game and 1 injury isn’t the best idea IMHO.

Keita gets injured (which he seems to do with some regularity)… we’re then down to Fab, Hendo and Milner who can’t play 90 mins let alone 2 games a week, and Jones/Elliot/Carvalho.

You reckon that mid field challenges for a league?
So, assuming Kiera does get injured, I don’t think a midfield of either:
Fabinho/Henderson/Jones
Fabinho/Henderson/Elliott
Fabinho/Henderson/Carvalho
With Milner either starting or coming on for Jones/Elliott/Carvalho is really a big deal for a month or so.

Don't forget, you're not a REAL supporter unless you sign off every post with YNWA

I didn’t see anyone writing the season off.

I am probably as old as you, but it’s OK to express concern about an aspect of our team that seems vulnerable or below strength. beer

"Chances of seriously challenging done inside the first month" was pretty much that?

Emotions talk anyway, I'm sure it wasn't meant that pessimistic, even for in here... 1 game into the season. That would be pretty daft.

JK has said we would sign a player if we could get the right one, but we can't for whatever reason. We've needed a midfielder for ages, at least three transfer windows now, possibly more.

First XV or squad? Mahrez wouldn't necessarily start for us.

I'd take that Bernardo Silva bloke though, he's not bad.

And we've signed Thiago and Carvalho in that time.

While others have left, some have been ineffective and others age.

It's been a fairly long term issue.

After this season, Hendo will take up Milner's squad position and will need another three midfielders next season. Carvalho and Elliot are both seen as midifielders long term and they'll have a year's experience. Unless we moved Ox on this season, don't think we had "space" for another one, regardless of our injury situation at present. Ox won't be going anywhere, none of the injuries are season-ending... we'll have to work with what we have. Keita is also in the final year of his contract and he will need to play a blinder if his contract is to be renewed. That's always been Klopp's philosophy and we are working within our means, having already shed a lot of excess salary off the books.

My point isn’t that Trent couldn’t play midfield… I’m sure he’d be effective… but we would lose him from his most effective position.

Fab and Hendo could play in defence, but not having them in midfield was more damaging. Putting Trent in mid field in just as big an error as you lose his contribution from out wide… which is one of the major strengths of our team.

Daft to try and force round pegs in to square holes.

That doesn’t work…. Hendo is fine when he rotates with Thiago or Keita, but he can’t play 90 minutes or 2 games in a week anymore.

Lose a couple of games in that month and that’s pretty much the season over as far as the league is concerned.

It’s reality

Last year we lost 2 games all season. City lost 3.

(The bigger problem for me - well actually Klopp - will be next season when he will have to sign at least 2 midfielders minimum to replace Ox and Milner and if Keita continues business-as-usual this season, you can make that 3 unless Morton or Bajectic really do shine this year).
