That really is/was an odd one. He did really well back in Spain.

Suso hasn't done too badly, either.
Only for Celta it seems. You can count all his goals for other teams on your hands yet he bangs them in for Celta.

Seems we loaned him to Sevilla who then had to buy him but they sold him the same day back to Celta for €5m.

No mention of how much we got back for him.

Didn't realise he's nearly 34 too, time flies.

A 25 year old Gini equivalent would cost us a lot of money to buy today.

I hope it works out for him, who's been successful having left us in the last 10 years?

Suarez
Ings
Kent (in a st league)

Struggling to come up with any others.

Agreed, another slightly odd saga.

Edit, left 11 years ago.

37 today.

Enjoyed that. Proved the doubters wrong (incl me) and he's a hell of a captain. We certainly miss him on the pitch when he's not there.

Bless... that’s fabulous. I seem to have something in my eye cloud9

He may not have the footballing skills of Stevie G, but Hendo’s become a top quality captain.

One of the few players I've been right about from day 1 at Liverpool. I used to argue all day with Raja and latterly Type-r about him laugh

I should probably get myself a hobby rather than arguing the toss on the Internet...

Man, Raja would argue about everything and say everything was rubbish. You weren't alone hehe

He has grown into a leader, role model and a solid player - in those early days I think it is fair to say he showed no signs of any of those qualities on the pitch at least. At one point he was very close to being sold to Fulham. I guess those who knew him up close and personally, that saw him training everyday, saw something in him. Could we wait on a player nowadays, give them the same time and space in the hope they blossom over a simililar period of time - I doubt it.

Lovely video and it has been a pleasure to see Hendo grow with the club over the last 10 years and prove many people wrong, including me.

Wasn't there an incident in a game few years back when Hendo was captain, and someone argued with him about taking a penalty or free kick, and he backed down, throwing his hands in the air? Can't see that happening now. He's not a "Gerrard" but he's a top captain.

I know there will always be the comparisons to Gerrard, but I think Henderson has more than earned being spoken about in his own right now with how he's conducted himself on and off the field, as well as his attitude and character.

So pleased he proved the doubters wrong.
It got a bit dusty in here.

Totally. Perhaps even more so with his off the field activities.

Bang average player who has been massively over-hyped for some reason. The fact he won some sort of player of the year award in 2019 was quite frankly laughable when you had the likes of KDB, Vardy, Kane, even Salah or Mane from your own team on fire that year. Would be nowhere near my PL top 20 and would be pretty much anonymous if not for the fact he plays for the media darlings Liverpool.

Football is all about opinions and the Guv is entitled to his.

The post would be easier to agree with if you recognised that he is a champions League and premier League winning captain, leading one of the country's iconic clubs to success after years of underperformance

There are loads of ways of building a winning team.

What does a Captain actually do though? Usually your captain is one of your better players and so leads by example plus also contributes via his play to the teams success. Hendo might have decent leadership skills (I don't really know) but he's an average player skill wise. Just don't think his actual on field contribution merits all the hype he gets.

He's played for England too and not really done anything of note there and rightly doesn't get half as much hype for his contributions to the national team so does just turning up for Liverpool and being part of a team that won medals, automatically make him great?

Someone mentioned Gerrard, a great player AND a great captain both for Liverpool and England. Can't believe he's even being mentioned in the same sentence as Hendo quite frankly.
