How times have changed. This was the most popular (by far) football club thread on PistonHeads, now frequently being relegated to page 2...

If that wasn't indicative of where we have now found ourselves, here's a little gossip to keep us down

"Liverpool are not willing to pay the fee demanded by Dortmund for Bellingham so will switch their attention to Wolves' Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes, 24, instead. (Fichajes - in Spanish) BBC."

This follows on from David Ornstein's snippet stating that whilst we'd still like him, the financials will likely see him go to either RM or City.

I'm not sure if it's a bad thing really, we were never going to buy him and another couple of top class targets, so most likely JB and one or two squad players, so if this means we can bring in 3 decent £60m(ish) targets then it might be for the best? Bellingham and a squadie would only be papering over the cracks, and knowing us, he'd be out for most of the season with a serious injury anyway...

Always look on the bright side of life.....

As long as he does not go to any other English team and we buy wisely instead

Keep hearing about Mason Mount, but is he any good?

I've never been sold on Mount, but he's definitely better than the likes of Ox and Kieta, so would be an improvement.

Only issue with Mount is his price will include the 30% English International tax. Then again who is out there that we could/can get ? Easy to moan eh.

Thread often goes a bit quiet when there's a break in games these days. I've always taken a "believe it when I see it" approach with Bellingham. Excellent player and would no doubt flourish under Klopp, and could easily be a club legend. But I've said before - if it becomes about money he'll go elsewhere. So be it, don't really care that much.

I'd never heard of Mo Salah when we signed him. Or Diaz, come to that. Or Nunez, particularly. I trust the club to find the right people this Summer, whoever they are.

I do find the idea of us going after Mount a bit weird but...whatever. He's always come across to me as a smug looking so and so.

I'm never sure what he actually does.

Thought he was an excellent player but he sees to have come off the boil massively in the last 2 years

I'd be confident of Klopp being able to get the best out of him again. At the very least he'd be a massive upgrade on constantly injured Ox and Keita.

I looked up players we'd sgned from Chelsea. Discounting the loan of Victor Moses (!), Joe Cole and Daniel Sturridge. That seems to be it.

Isn't he on a free? So Chelsea get no say in the matter.

He's 24, 36 England caps, more than 1 in 5 goals for Chelsea and can run, and putting aside 4 games out due to a bruised pelvis this season he's had a total of 12 games missed in 4 years and we can get him on a free? Absolutely.

Ox has had 88 in the same time the poor bugger.

That rather changes it! Massive upgrade on Ox or Keita

I thought he only had a year left on his contract come the summer so Chelsea would prefer to sell than lose him in 2024 for nothing?

AS Monaco director Paul Mitchell is apparently going to leave Monaco in the summer...

Don't know anything about him but he joined them in June 2020. Think we might be better off with his predecessor who identifed some pretty decent talent...

Joking aside, we need the sporting director role filled asap as summer window opens in just over 2 months. I'd also be asking why Julian Ward decided to suddenly quit after just a few months and seems to be taking up the same role at Ajax next season?

I read somewhere that Klopp's preference is Christoph Freund at Salzburg.

Now come on Flip, do you actually watch our games? Salah was at Chelsea for 2 years but fair enough. Diaz + Nunez were both bought having played against us in the previous seasons CL and done very well.

Nunes scored 4 goals against us in the QF last year, 3 of which were in the second leg at Anfield and were all disallowed for tight offside calls, and he was basically the best player on the pitch. He scored the winners against Barcelona and Ajax to get them to the QF also.

Of course I do - but they weren't on our (public) radar at the time, and I have a bad memory for names hehe

Although oddly enough, I do remember Taki playing for Salzburg against us and looking very impressive.
