I just don't understand how he can pick players who either haven't been playing due to injury, or haven't been playing well. It's not just about coming back from injury and being fit enough to play, it's about being match sharp and in form. Henderson, McGuire, TAA and Sterling shouldn't be anywhere near the final squad.
None of those apply to TAA.
scratchchin
He hadn't been coming back from injury and he'd been playing fantastically in Liverpools run in.
He missed the first international break through injury and was not picked for the World Cup qualifiers in March because, according to Southgate, "I don’t think he’s played at the level he’s been at during the last few years. He’s a big talent and I’m sure he will play a big role for England in the future"

Doesn't sound like "TAA of old" or "playing fantastically " to me.
Well he was.

Especially the last 10 or so games, of which he won 8 or 9.

But yeah Southgate clearly knows best laugh

You've obviously read enough to find points to bolster your view. Now, for balance, read about his performances in Liverpools run in. You'll find he was probably our best player and instrumental in us finishing third.
Playing well in the last few games of the season doesn't justify a call up IMO, particularly when the squad is already overloaded with RBs.
Few games? You clearly didn't watch him play. It was a lot more than the last few games. And it's disingenuous to try and move the goalposts by mentioning other players. Your point was about coming back from injury and form only, and you are wrong with regard to TAA on those points.

But you won't change your opinion despite two people who watched him play (unlike yourself) saying he was genuinely excellent (regular MOM performances) so further debate is fruitless.

It's moot anyway. He's injured now so your wish has been granted and he won't 'be anywhere near the squad'.

I'm looking forward to the start of the tournament.
Actually it is you who is the one being disingenuous. My original post that you replied to (which you have conveniently cut out from the quoted conversation) stated "Henderson, McGuire, TAA and Sterling shouldn't be anywhere near the final squad.".
You pounced on the fact it mentioned TAA. I mentioned four players.
You also said he played well "in the run in", now contradict yourself by saying it was more than the last few games.
I am happy to chat about football. You are clearly a Liverpool fan and a fan of TAA which is fine but please don't misrepresent what I said.

TAA confirmed out then.

Lingard or JWP seems to be the options.

JWP for me, not just as a Saints fan but because we need more midfielders and have enough forwards already.

I agree, we already have half a dozen attacking midfielders, including 2 out of form.

We have an injured henderson, inexperienced Bellingham, just recovered from injury Phillips with little experience, and average form Rice. JWP isn't very exprienced in internationals but he is in league terms and would be great for set pieces

Funny how after all the rumpus about selecting four right backs, none of them are starting today! hehe

Hopefully, Ward-Prowse will nail his spot in the squad today.

Don’t worry, 3 GK on the bench though

Unreal.

I doubt If a single one of tonight's starting 11 will play in the first game next week.

What a divvy.

Hoping JWP (if it's not to be Lingard) does enough to persuade GS that another defender's not necessary to replace TAA... not holding my breath obvs.

Edited to add (again) that blue shirt's awful.

Mings is going to cost us against a good team. He is a liability

100%. He will cost us at least one penalty if he plays.

What’s the deal with all the white bandages on their wrists? Have they been having arm wrestling contests?

And that was at least a yellow card on Grealish, st ref.

Shaw is doing what he can I think to make LB his.

Genuinely forgot Sancho was on the pitch

A few boos for the performance isn't going amiss either.

Only one or two come out of that 45 with any credit. JWP for his set pieces and general "not giving the ball away needlessly", Johnstone's done okay with his routine saves and um, that's about it.

The national dinner lady isn't having a great game; two dives and a lot of running into cul-de-sacs. One good run created a chance but other than that, not much else IMO.
