If England lose by 1 goal and Croatia win by 1 goal, Croatia go through.
If Scotland win by 2 goals, Scotland go through with Czech.
Basically, if England lose, they may well be out.
Not sure that's correct. If Scotland win by 2 goals, Scotland go through with Czech.

If England lose 1-0 to the Czechs, and Croatia beat Scotland 1-0, Croatia finish third behind England on head to head (both teams would have 4 points).
Croatia would almost certainly progress as one of the 3rd placed teams.
If Scotland win 2-0 and England lose 1-0 then Scotland finish second and England third. England would progress as a 3rd placed team, most likely.
If Scotland won 1-0 and England lost 1-0 then England finish second above Scotland on goal difference (we'd be zero and the Scots minus 1).
It's very unlikely that England will go out even if we lose to the Czechs. Finishing third with 4 points will almost certainly mean we progress and we'd play the winners of group B, C or E I think.
Basically, we're through.
So if equal on points with Croatia, it’s not goal difference/then scored, the 1st factor is the result of the game between the two?

Although, I have noticed that some 3rd placed teams still go through, which is a bit of a nonsense but there you go!
There are 24 teams in 6 groups of 4. If only the top 2 went through, the next round would be 12 teams playing 6 matches, then 6 teams playing 3 matches which would result in 3 winners competing for 2 places in the final...So you need to include the 4 best 3rd places teams so you have 16 teams in the knockout round. Then 8,4,2..
