There are two specific incidences where a player who is physically standing in an offside position will be deemed NOT to be offside-
1. The ball came to the offside player having been played by a defender (as in the situation tonight).
2. The offside player receives the ball from a throw in.
Them’s the rules.
The defender has to deliberately play the ball. 1. The ball came to the offside player having been played by a defender (as in the situation tonight).

He was panicked into playing the ball and the outcome wasn't what he intended.
Is that deliberate?
The FA have confirmed that goal wouldn't count again.

But the player standing in the offside position wouldn't have gained an advantage.
Lukaku was offside and was the player that forced the defender to make a rash clearance. He benefitted when the defender didn't get the deliberate outcome he wanted.
What was it Brian Clough used to say? If he’s not interfering with play…

Very, very pleased to hear that he's OK. Does anyone know why he collapsed yet? Assuming either heart-related or a seizure. Either way, hope he is OK and he is able to play football again, but if he isn't, I hope he lives a long and healthy life.
Not sure if it's connected I was watching the game and he went over to take a corner early on in the match and he was proper sweating and look knackered and it wasn't even a heavy start at the moment. Maybe not but enough for me to wonder why he looked so knackered so early.Acquaintance of mine in the biz spoke to his agent last night - he is doing ok but as of last night the doctors still couldn't say what caused it.
Agree with above poster (although probably more hindsight) but every close up of him in the match he looked like he had a "film" on his face, not sweat from running but more the look of someone who has the sweats when they have flu or something.
Shocking scenes. I was genuinely shaking watching it, should have turned off but it's like a car crash. Thank Christ they got him back.

Well done to all that helped him.
It looks as if he was actually in exactly the right place for that to happen with team-mates and professionals around him.
Perhaps the BBC (and others) were at fault for showing too much but I think they were awaiting the result that actually happened (ie. him retaining consciousness) but it took too long to occur and by that time I think all of the TV people were in a bit of a panic. Ironically we (and the presenters) didn't actually see that the outcome was not as bad as we'd thought. Good luck to him.
And well done to Micah Richards on the BBC for being sympathetic but positive about what the result might be.

I am in awe of the medics and also the players ....... we are all on no doubt that immediate response saved a mans life.
Just goes to show how quickly any of us can find ourselves in a similar position. Or how quickly we could depart...... one would assume CE is exceptionally fit and subject to rigorous medical checks.
I am questioning myself whether I would be useful in a similar situation. Not convinced i could react in the right way so quickly. I think I might book myself on a course or two.
Also questioning whether I have all my st in one sock should I fall as quickly. Time to sort everything I think.
My Mrs is in hospital at the moment. Having a lot of time to think things through.

The sun is shining here in Hampshire, it's a glorious Euro football finals morning and I've just woofed a couple of bacon rolls. Forget the pandemic (if possible), fire up the BBQ, get some beers in the fridge, and get ready to enjoy watching England crush Croatia. Life feels good today folks!
Actually, being sensible for a moment I predict a cagey low scoring draw. Anyway, too early for a beer?
