Read something in one of the Tabloids that said unless you have a match ticket fans will not be allowed into Qatar. I think the Qatari's are having accommodation problems!

Anyone who has ever been to Qatar would know that it is impossible for them to accomodate the teams, the officials & the fans, even with the new hotels they are building. They were planning on most people staying in Dubai & flying in for the day & there were also schemes to rent liners & park them in the bay for the duration or put fans up in tents in the desert. It's a tiny place.

Never been to Qatar so unappreciative of its size, or lack of. There were big talks of having numerous cruise liners moored up as accommodation, 14 iirc, however they only have two! Also I'm lead to believe there will be no hotels for fans as they are taken up by the teams and staff, you may be lucky and get a hotel if you buy a hospitality package.

they have had ample time to sort this - its not looking good for them!

The Corniche they built is beautiful, I used to sit and watch the weekly fortnightly speedboat championship from the banks.

But yes, it lacks scale as a country and its not like the world is short of cruise ships right now.

One thing I know is that the Qatarians have pockets deeper than the Mariana trench, would not surprise me if they bought Cunard and redirected all their ships lol

Not when it comes to their slaves sorry, guest construction workers.

It's a disgrace this farce is to go ahead. FIFA are clearly not working in the interests of football and major nations should literally take their ball away and start a new, breakaway federation.

But, will they? Will they fk!

Workers and human rights are a big deal in the UK and most of Europe… many other parts of the world not so much. The next world cup is in Mexico/US/Canada… not a region without inequalities.

An absolute disgrace of a world cup, plus they will be disrupting national leagues for 2 years so they can play it in winter. Must have been too busy counting their envelopes to remember the Middle East is a bit hot for football in summer.

Posting nonsense like this really doesn't help the discussion. The weather in November in Qatar is very temperate & in fact you might need to take a jumper or light jacket if you go out in the evening. They aren't playing in June/July August when it does get up to 45 degrees.

confused

That's right, they aren't playing in June/July August when it does get up to 45 degrees. It was originally scheduled for summer though. They were going to build air-conditioned stadiums.....Must have been too busy counting their envelopes to remember the Middle East is a bit hot for football in summer? They will be disrupting national leagues for 2 years so they can play it in winter because the weather in November in Qatar is very temperate & in fact you might need to take a jumper or light jacket if you go out in the evening.

So as you see, far from posting nonsense, everything cb31 has said, you have confirmed to be correct. I'm not sure how accusing someone of posting nonsense, whilst at the same time confirming as correct everything they say is "helping the discussion".....

Always read the post! smile

It's a disgrace of a World Cup for sure. I've never seen a single decent game of football played in the Middle East, but perhaps WC will surprise us. Russia 2018 did. I hope the Ukraine situation helps clean up the allocating of sporting events a bit. Here's hoping anyway.

I could convert the garage into a cinema room with small bar and still have change leftover. I know where my money is staying!

Which is a question those of us who travel Qatar with work are yet to receive an answer, or where we will stay if there is no hotel rooms available.....

Unless absolutely essential i would have thought travel to Qatar would have been postponed or arranged outside of the WC dates - then again i dont know what industry you are in or what you do but it will be virtually impossible from what i have read.

First ever WC in middle East, first ever WC in Qatar, gave the country a chance, you never know they may surprise us just like Russia and south Africa did.

They might well do, unfortunatley, as it stands (and it can change) because every Qatarian is a millionaire, the concept of not being able to pay 20k for 8 nights is an alien concept.

In SA and Russia you hade multiple tiers of accomodation, Hostel, B&B, Air B&B, Cheapy hotel all the way through to 5 star.

I exaggerate, I have worked in Qatar quite a bit previously but if you can't get into the Sheraton you usually end up in either the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons, those are your options smile

What to do? Quite simply to get the Qatarians need to get/buy a floatilla of cruise ships and drop the price by 10x.

Both Russia & South Africa have a long footballing history.

Qatar's first ever goalposts went up a week ago last Thursday.

It's corruption money, pure and simple.

The 1940s apparently, presumably when we arrived for their oil.

How long should football have to have been in the country? Isn't something like this how you drive new investment in the sport to grow it?
