I agree actually. Certainly not obviously worse.

But we do need a deadball free kick specialist. Has to be a player who otherwise adds a lot though. I'd rather see Dybala or Martinez than Eriksen tbh. Or even Maddison. Just think there's a risk of Eriksen coasting a bit and perhaps his game being less suited to Conte's system?
Could I possibly interest you in a midfielder with 362 top flight appearances, 44 goals (including 10 this season) and whose club struggled towards the end of the season meaning he might be up for a move?

He's 27 and lethal from a free kick too.
I'd buy him. The question is though, is he good enough to start if you exclude free kicks? Could he replace Bentancur? Would he be happy at 27, sitting on the bench a lot? I guess if you want to play for a good team, you should expect to have competition for your place. If you want a guaranteed start then you probably aren't in a very good squad. I think he only signed a new 5 year contract this season, so won't be cheap to buy (although he's not going to be on big money - less than Winks!).
Is this JWP? TBH I'd take Maddison over him. Think he's a better player other than from deadballs (and he's still miles better than anyone we have on that front).
Hadn't realised he'd signed a big contract tbf but yes, it's JWP. Big fan of his for a few seasons now, does his job very quietly without fuss etc.

I'd agree about Maddison too. Still prone to do the odd silly thing now and again but as he matures, he will get even better.
Never say Never in football, but I have it on good authority that JWP won't leave Southampton, he's a proper Southampton lad and loves the club.
I think the fact he signed a 5 year contract demonstrates that. Although "only" on 45k a week. If Saints accepted an offer from a demonstrably better club, who doubles his salary, he's going to leave.
Thing is that you're still "only" talking about £1.5m after tax once bonuses etc are in. A lot, but not "do what you want for the rest of your life" money. He could x3 his cash with a big move.

I still think we need 5-6 players this summer -
1. Goalkeeper to replace Gollini, play in the cups and push Hugo in the final 2 years of his contract
2. First-choice upgrade to Emerson / Doherty
3. First-choice upgrade to Sessegnon / Reggie
4. First-choice upgrade to Davies
5. Upgrade to Hojbjerg - someone with some creativity or at least ability to take a free kick
6. A striker upgrade to Lucas / Bergy

.
I'd agree with (1). 2 and 3 ... tbh I think we'd be ok sorting out just one of those positions (if funds are limited). Probably RWB is where we are weakest. Depends on who Conte trusts and can get.

Agree 4. Bastoni or De Vrij.

Disagree on 5. I'd keep him and Skipp and then add a Maddison/Dybala player to Bentancur. So you have those 4 as central options.

6. Yes ideally. Though less of a priority now we have Kulu.

Kane signed a 5 year deal on 6 times that money and we all know where that started to go

Would still have Maddison over JWP any day of the week

People keep mentioning Dybala. Paratici doesn't rate him, and tried to move him on at Juventus. He's hardly going to bring him in now he's at Spurs.

I feel like Bergwein will leave, its obvious he wants to play regular first team football and he isn't going to get it here, unless he's willing in the pre season to turn into a beast of a wing back, but I can't see that happening either.

Moura I would expect to stay, it seems like he is happy to be that impact player and he isn't bad backup to the front three, he's a good player but just never has that consistency when playing regularly.

I was listening to Gold and Guest earlier and I agree with their consensus that our front three needs no additional firepower and expect Kane, Son and Kulu to get even better than they did in the second half of the season when Kulu arrived.

I like PEH as an enforcer, but I don't think he offers much going forward and I think you have to have that these days in a top top team.

Going to be an interesting window.

But Hojbjerg playing just in front of the back three in a defensive sweeper role? he got forward in the last few games, but couldn't shoot biggrin
I've still hopes for Rodon, Skipp needs to get fit again

Club just announcing a 150m capital injection from ENIC via the issue of convertible A-shares and accompanying warrants.

Spurs Announcement said:
Daniel Levy, Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur said: “The delivery of a world-class home was always a key building block in driving diversified revenues to enable us to invest in the teams and support our ambitions to be consistently competing at the highest levels of European football. Additional capital from ENIC will now enable further investment in the Club at an important time.’’

Before he got injured Skipp was in the running for our player of the season.

I see potential as a future captain.

Yes, was playing brilliantly. Has the potential to the best DM in England. I could actually see him becoming more of a box to box monster as he matures. He has the instinct to go forward. Timing of his tackles is up there with Romero.

It seems as though the board and refining their methodology over time -- they're in with an elite manager so have put their best foot forward immediately and at the start of the summer, too. That means that they've effectively declared themselves 'in the market' for any agents to consider them when canvassing clubs for their players. Great news, looking forward to confirmation of commitment from Conte and Kane next.

Yes. Maybe stung by the Diaz fiasco? Maybe it's one of those when a timid board that make up the numbers actually squeaked? Perhaps Levy has an ounce of humility and realises he has made a tremendous hash of things over the past 3 years and actually needs to leave it to people who know what they are doing?

"Let's leave it till the end of summer when many of the good players have moved" wasn't genius after all?

"Let's try and pay less than players are worth and walk away if we can't do a deal" has it's limits?

Either way, they have Conte, CL football, an upward trajectory, and the best stadium and facilities in Europe to dangle, so it should be a decent proposition.

Surely buying the best young players should be an investment anyway?

Showcase them in the PL and CL and watch a 60M player turn into a 100M one in a couple of years.

We have been let down previously by our scouting team and Levy's tentative approach to the market.

A positive sign indeed. Should be good for at least 2-3 decent players, and hopefully not the usual 5-6 bargain basement shoe-ins.

It’s all good news. TBH Conte has played a blinder, they know he will go if he’s not backed and must be in shock that we secured 4th. Conte is probably more shocked himself rofl

LOL. How true. We need 4 or 5 players, all of whom should improve the first team. That should be doable with £150m if we can get one or two on a free.

Hard to know where we are with debts for the all dross however. Brian Gil cost us a fortune and has done nothing!

It's also showcasing our ability to work with an elite manager -- this'll be noted by other elite managers in the game, hence making us more attractive to the real talent.

I like Gil and hope that Conte can put him on the right track, and get him to cut his hair. There’s a decent player in there somewhere underneath all that hair.
