Yeah he doesn’t want to be on the bench again. Plus he signed a contract and is stupidly well paid so we will struggle to sell him.
I really want to see him perform well as I think he will replace DeGea
I don’t think we’ll see him in a United shirt again. I’m still torn on DeGea. Phenomenal shot stopper when he needs to be, but his distribution is still worryingly bad and I can’t see how it will improve. That last bit is very worrying when we’ll hopefully be playing a very quick style of football. I really want to see him perform well as I think he will replace DeGea

I really like DDG, he fronted up last season and called it how he’s seen it. He also called out those players that want to leave. At 31 he’s got years left in him.

Apparently Dean Henderson is off to Forest on loan with an option to buy for £20m, with you guys paying a portion of his wages next season.

DDG will get better coaching this season and he’ll be keen to get his place back in the Spain team. It’s his distribution that’s costing him that role so it’s win win!

Agreed, but I just don’t know how he’s going to improve that side of his game. Bit disappointed with Henderson going. If DDG doesn’t step up then our top class replacement is playing elsewhere so we could have a very weak point in a crucial spot in the team. Unident; the point is, you can have a dire season, and be a completely inspired team, the next.
Not saying we'll do a Leicester, but it's not impossible, either.
While Leicester did it that way, Everton were normally around 6-7th place and then a few years after Moyes left they're now fighting relegation, Not saying we'll do a Leicester, but it's not impossible, either.

Also, I understand the loan includes an option to buy at 20m.

I think Rashford has had a break from football for around 4 years.
I'm not worried about Utd if Rashford is in the team.
That statement may come back to bite me but I just don't see him in a PL title winning team.

So why loan him then. As I understand it, it is to placate him as he wants first team footy.

But if he isn't going to play, we are offsetting wages in the interim. It could save us millions over the course of a loan. Also, I understand the loan includes an option to buy at 20m.

Additionally, Garner can not be loaned to Forest as you can only loan one player per club per PL rules.
The deal just doesn't make sense for United. As Jammy-Git says, much better for Henderson and Forest.

Yeah but that makes sense (and had made sense previously) if he were in line to be No1 within the next couple of years. However the deal gives Forest the option to buy for 20m. This suggests United are looking to move him on.

That's what they value him at though. So regardless, they get to offset wages for 12 months and potentially get £20m in 12 months. Forest cannot afford the full wages or fee at the moment, and maybe they just know they won't get it elsewhere either. So better to do a deal if he isn't in the plans.Additionally, Garner can not be loaned to Forest as you can only loan one player per club per PL rules.

The alternative is we sell for £20m now, but his wages rule out a lot of clubs. Or we let him sit on the bench and it costs us full wages for 12 months and good chance his value goes down. This way, he is playing and will hopefully justify a £20m fee and the higher wages in 12 months time - he doesn't right now.

Typical United, playing a second choice keeper mega bucks and pricing him out of a move.
or
Typical United, jumping for the first crappiest deal on offer.

He cost us nothing and was going to replace DDG when we offered the contract (Oli froze DDG out and brought Hendo in the second part of that first season back from SU).Typical United, playing a second choice keeper mega bucks and pricing him out of a move.

I just think it's modern business, as opposed to bad business. Hedging bets on player value etc. Chelsea are kings of it.

clever of Forest who presumably will take the option if they survive next season, get relegated adn they dont
who do you have as your new #2, and if DDG got a bad injury would they be good enough to play regularly?

Linked with Sam Johnstone as well.

Long term I think it works out for both clubs. We get to offset his wages to a point, he gets regular football in the premiership and hopefully will be happy.
Forrest get a very good keeper, and avoid the risk of committing to buy him now and get stuck with the wages if they get relegated.
We had issues last year with players not happy and impacting the dressing room, and we dont want another one.
