Great deal at the price quoted, I still think he will need someone better than McFred next to him

I don't know if he is defensive enough to have say FDJ into Bruno and Eriksen or if he would be next to Bruno with a DM?

It seems to be a quality signing but I genuinely don't know enough to be hugely excited

He’s the Sergio Busquet we have been waiting for. My take is he’s the conduit between attack and defence. Capable of receiving the ball from our defence and moving it forward successfully with a pass or dribble without the 20 seconds of unnecessary frippery we’ve had from Pogba that slows our game.

£56 million plus add ons for De Jong by the looks of it finally. Great deal if you ask me smile
For a guy that reportedly wants to stay at Barca, do you really want guys that don't want to come? isn't that what got you into this mess in the first place?
This United fan really wants him to come.

None of what we read in the papers around transfers carries much weight with me. He’s got years left on his current deal so could just say no thanks not interested but he hasn’t. He was diplomatic when asked a few weeks back about the move and there’s been no actual quotes from him since. He’s an ideal replacement for Pogba for me.

Worked very successfully under ETH before and fingers crossed is about to do so again.
That would be my worry laugh

From an outsiders point of view ETH looks a breath of fresh air and the real deal, i do think you guys need players that want play for utd and are committed to getting utd back to the top again though rather than ones that appear not to be up for the challenge.

Apparently we're hijacking a deal for Malacia (LB) from Feyenoord

Busquets sits deep ,the little I do know is that why he hasn’t been a success at Barca is when he plays that busquets role the Barca defence are exposed ,Barca fans think his best games have come when he had had busquets patrolling behind him .

Cracking player he is. So glad about this one and for £15 mill is a steal. Could see Telles out the door.

I would have thought he needs a proper DM next to him who just covers the back 4. Like a Fabinho or Kante type person. I think they will also give the defence some cover which was non existent last season.

I think ideally he would want to stay at Barca, but they have said he is a valuable asset and can raise the funds they need to offset the debts and allow some more players to be signed.

The LB could be a steal if we get the deal done.

I doubt we will get any centre half's in, mainly because we have 5 at the club already. Its doubtful we can shift Jones or Bailly in the window.

See that's odd as the general consensus I have read is he hasn't performed at his best because Busquests is in his role, guess the truth is somewhere in the middle

I'm still in shock weve bought a mid TBF, just a couple more needed

I think he likes to pick up the ball deep and be the connection between defence and attack. I’d say he’s more of a defensive minded midfielder but not a box to box.

That’s useful seeing as we have no other LBs on the books…..

Busquets barely moves he patrols in front of the defence ,I really don’t know much about fdj but he does not play that role he likes to be more mobile from my understanding
The consensus last year was that sancho would solve our right side issue ,which had me head scratching since he was always better on the left for dortmund.

We definitely need a proper holding player imo.

Apparently ETH was less than impressed with Tellers in our game against Palace, I'd not be surprised to hear him move on, this kids about £15m apparently very promising

With the money on FDJ, Malacia and still needing an attacker I'm not sure we'll see one

I suspect we'll play variations of McFred/FDJ into Bruno and FDJ into Bruno and Eriksen (should we get him)

Hopefully Garner comes in and nails that role and makes it his own is the other option

I realise I completely forgot we had DvB wonder where he'll fit, or if he'll fit

I have a sneaky suspicion that he could give McT a go at CDM.

Garner,
Mct
Fred
DVB
Hannibal
Pereira
Bruno

Make up the none wide attacking midfield options. ETH is going to have to work hard until we get some additions!

But could he be disciplined enough to just sit in front? Tall, strong, and if you have a FDJ you just need him to break up play and give easy balls.

With Fred / McT you got the impression neither knew what the other one was doing, and they took it in turns to go forward and defend and thats why they always looked out of postion. Plus they both where asked to launch attacks be creative.

Might be a better player with a better system?

Garner looked good in that role for Forest last season.

I don't get writing McT off

ETH wasn't hired to carry on the spending and trying to buy success, he has a track record of improving players and getting them to work well in his system even if it's in a slightly different position

Fred had a pretty good improvement last season I think with coaching and training something we've been lacking we could see the same from not only McTom but others too

I don’t rate him ,he has a great game once every 4 months and then is nigh on invisible .Just my opinion and I hope I’m wrong and that he can improve enormously.

I would be disappointed to see Fred get dropped. Was probably my favourite midfielder last year after Bruno annoyed me with all his shouting at refs etc. I just don’t like players that do that and don’t want them at the club.

Unpopular opinion but I would of rather got rid of Bruno and kept Pogba. The lad never really got a chance to play as a cam - his actual position.
