Brentford - lost best player and momentum
Leeds - will get even more found out this season, but may be Bournemouth instead.
Brighton - my wild card (*). Hopefully their manager will be at Everton or Spurs by Xmas, they've lost two good players, had their day in the sun. Time to go.

(*) I'm a Palace fan.
Potter to Everton by Christmas isn't a bad shout at all.

No way can the Lampard thing carry on much longer.

Did Frank touch you in your special place? Or did you have a Mrs leave you for him? You seem to really hate him for some reason...

I'd quite like Potter though, I think he'd only leave Brighton for a top 6 club though. So maybe a shout for Spurs when Conte throws his toys out of the pram and quits wink

I don't think Potter will go to Everton or Spurs.....I doubt the current ownership structure of either clubs would appeal to him from what I've seen of interviews with him.

LOL. Fat Frank is particularly useless. It comes through in every interview he gives. He obviously cares a lot, but has no clue how to lead

what's happening at Leicester? no signings Schmichael and maddison off?

FFP finally caught up with them?

I think so. I was reading that they need to sell before they can buy. Kasper is off and it looks like Newcastle are after Maddison, so I'm sure they'll start buying soon.

I think there may be a few other clubs coming up against FFP issues in the next season or so.

The BBC has a chart showing how many air miles each club covered for their preseason. Some clubs covered in 22k miles flying for training camps and friendlies. Leicester travelled 500 miles.

It sounds like money is really tight if they can't afford a foreign trip for team building.

Or Leicester just decided to not travel half-way round the world, perhaps?

After 5 games in, and effectively an 8th of the season gone, thought it would be worth revisiting this thread.....

Don't think many people would have predicted the bottom half of the table to look like this after first 5 games.

Although the last few posts were alluding to Leicester's situation that is now quite clear, and pretty much spelt out by the owner before the match last night and by BD in his after match interview. Their aim this season is to reach 40 points.......and that looks like it will be a struggle.
The surprise for me is Wolves, and they just look like they can't score a goal.

Who will be the next manager out the door, BD or Stevie G I wonder?

I think Fulham will be OK, and I still think Forest will be as well.

The relegation battle looks like it will already be between the current bottom 5, and Bournemouth despite an early manager change, I don't think have the squad to stay up, and looks like the owners are in acceptance of that, and expect to go back down again and to me look the only one of those 5 to be odds on certain to go down.

I think there are more than just the bottom 5 involved. Southampton (my team) have had a couple of good results but until they are on 40 points I won't feel that comfortable

There are always a couple of teams who start well and fall away and I sense that this season there are up to 10 clubs who might struggle

Well, yes, your team does have a habit of having a good Aug, Sept & Oct, and then the wheels fall off and the slide down to table starts.
I still sadly feel Brentford will be in that same category again (despite the 4-0 thrashing of Utd) but they won't have Eriksen to help them out in the second half of the season this time.

We could see a tight 6 or 7 team relegation battle come seasons end.

Sean Dyche I feel is waiting in the wings for a call for the next PL manager to get the bullet, but will that be to Leicester, Villa, Everton or maybe even Wolves?

I think one or even two of the current managers of those 4 teams won't be in the job by end of Sept....if their results don't improve.

I think Gerard is the least secure at this moment in time.

I think Frank and Stevie G are most at risk although Brendan made a bit of a statement which might mean he suffers first

The board have backed Lampard fairly well during the window. Tough match coming up, but I think he'll be given time. We've created lots of chances, just not had anyone to put the ball in the back of the net. Maybe Maupay will turn some of those chances in to goals until DCL is back fit.

I think (hope) in the next few games when everyone is match fit we'll start winning a few games. I've written the Derby game off, I'll be over the moon with a point!

Indeed.
Not quite a Parkeresque interview, but still one that might not sit well with the owners.

Maybe that's his grand plan, say enough to get the sack, and walk away with the cash?

At the top of the thread, pre-season, I said:

Bournemouth
Everton
Leeds

6 games in I'd stick with the first two, and possibly swap in Forest instead of Leeds. I think Forest may have gone OTT on signings. Big challenge to get the team playing well before the rot sets in.

Everton haven't conceded many goals and have been creating lots of chances to score, hopefully Maupay will put some of those away and DCL is back in training this week. We were good against Liverpool at the weekend and think we've made some good signings.

We'll be fine this season biggrin

It will be interesting to revisit after 10 games have been played. There are some interesting games coming this month with teams in the bottom half playing each other, and even at this stage, you have to think that in Leicester's case for example, they are must wins.

This season does feel different from others in the recent past in the sense I think the promoted clubs might have a bit better chance of survival. I accept it's early days but thus far Fulham certainly appear competitive and if Forest can get their new signings to gel I think they could stay up as well; on balance I'd still have Bournemouth as one of the favourites for the drop but not sure who I'd have joining them!

Hopefully not my team (Leeds) but being honest there have been one or two worrying signs in our recent performances (specifically poor defending and a failure to convert chances). We play Forest at Elland Road on Monday next week and if we don't win that one it will sow some seeds of doubt in my mind....
