Wolves without a fit striker are sinking like a stone.
Wolves letting Coady go out on loan as well to Everton, seems a madness decision, given he was their Captain, as well as they now seem very uneasy at the back, coupled with the lack of a striker, although signing Costa, even at 34 with lack of recent game time, could still benefit them, if they can give him the service.

I'm sure they'll appoint another Portuguese coach given the established connections, but likely again no PL experience, which might not work given their current position.
Yes that was a big blow and even I was thinking damn West Ham should have got him! But like many of these things, behind the scenes the player could have said 'hey ive done you guys a fair shift, I want to move for x y and z reasons, can I go?' and the board makes a call on it. Sometimes there are human elements behind transfers that make no sense from a purely footballing perspective.
Bruno Lage was wanting us to switch to a back 4, and with Nathan Collins and Max Kilman being generally "better" defenders, Coady was benched and he seemingly took exception to it. Fair enough really considering he with us for a while and was a great captain, though towards the end he made a fair few mistakes which led to us conceding.

Our lack of goals is an issue. Jiminez hasn't been the same since his injury, we sent Fabio Silva on loan to Anderlecht where he's on 10+ goals, and then we signed Sasa Kalajdzic who did his ACL in his first 45 minutes playing for us hehe
We were forced into signing Diego Costa through him being a free agent.

We do have a very good squad still, and I do think/hope we'll start picking up wins and get out of the drop zone soon enough, although I'm not 100% confident on it.

I didnt realise Coady had fallen so far.

He's been excellent for Everton so far this season

It does seem a bit of a coincidence between him going to Everton and their gradual rise at the same time as Wolves gradual decline.

He's still a great player, as evidenced by his performances with Everton, but he quickly fell out of love with the club and its' fans and vice versa.

His family are often seen posting online (FB, Twitter) this season laughing about how Wolves are struggling this season, so it's fair to say he's probably enjoying his loan spell hehe

Our gradual decline has been the last year or so in the making really.

What happens if Forest go down? Are they skint after signing 74 players and spending many millions?

Cloughie might send a bolt of lightning down onto the current owner perhaps......but, it is an interesting question.

What duration contracts have some of the players been signed for......?
Did see some were only signed on a years contract, so maybe if they go back down they won't have big wage bills carrying over, but will be looking for more players again next season!

On the odd occasion he's played for England I thought he looked OK and not out of his depth. Rather him than you know who.......

Palace have slipped into the spot above the bottom 3 almost un noticed - so they could end up in the mix.
Their next 6 matches are all against other teams around them, so the bottom 6 or 7 teams could look very different come mid Nov, other than I suspect Forest might still be sitting bottom, and possibly cut adrift from even the other two teams in the relegation zone.

Already talk today of Cooper getting the push sooner rather than later.
Table doesn't lie, however have Palace lost to Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea and had arguably harsh VAR judgements against us in each of those games. Drew with Liverpool. Conceding in the last couple of minutes regularly is becoming frustrating. However, I'm reasonably optimistic that we'll push back up the table soon and finish mid-table again.

Coady has been one of our best performers this season. Made a massive difference alongside another new signing Tarkowski. The defence has been head and shoulders above anything I’ve seen at Everton for far too long. Hope we keep him at the end of the loan.

Coady's contract with Wolves expires in June, so I'd hope that we can sign him on a free.

I do wonder how many fans of clubs linked with Lingard in the summer are relieved that they didn't sign him. He's hardly shown any of the form he had at West Ham so far this season

Yes Lingard! He joined West Ham as we were peaking with the previous squad, he had a 3 up front line up, a team playing counter attacking football it suited him perfectly. Then he sat on the bench for a year. Prior to West Ham he also sat on the bench for a year. The whole thing was a debacle around him and Moyes was fixated with him. Glad we dodged it though.

A report in The Athletic today says that Wolves were literally 2 hours away from signing Craig Dawson from us. Dawson wanted a move due to personal reasons West Ham said ok if they could get a replacement in which was Bednarek but he went off to Villa in the end. So Dawson stayed. I think he would have been a good fit there, very underrated and probably one of the bargains of the year when we bought him for £2m!

Reports today that Wolves may try to get Nuno back after Lopetegui turned them down.

How long before they go cap in hand to Lage as well.

If Rodgers is in charge for the Everton game at the start of November then it'll be too late for us, we'll already be down. Our only hope is 33-35 points will be enough to stay up, then a new manager might be able to achieve that if he comes in after the WC.

At a quarter of the way through the season, I think you're right.

There's only a 4 point gap between Liverpool in 8th and Wolves in 17th, but there's the same 4 point gap, between you and Forest and Wolves in 17th, so there's already the prospect of you and Forest getting cast adrift from the 3rd relegation spot if results don't improve by the start of the WC break.

Need to get a new manager in before the WC break IMHO.

May not be all that silly in reality. Lopetegui rejected the job due to his father becoming ill, which naturally caught the club by surprise.

Under Nuno we blitzed the Championship, 7th in Prem, 7th in Prem and Europa League qtr finals, and then an underwhelming season in 12th following Jiminez having his head smashed in.

Lage was given ~£120m in signings over the summer and look how that turned out biggrin Absolute dire football to watch to boot, somehow worse than what was played under Nuno which takes some doing hehe

I'd rather we went for someone else though. Michael Beale from QPR seemingly doing the rumours, though Rangers are apparently interested also.

Villa fan here looking nervously over our shoulder.

I don't know a single Villa fan who thinks Gerrard is the man for us. Totally inexperienced as a manager at this level, he's now got the same win ratio as Tim Sherwood, Gerard Houllier and David O'Leary, all of whom were swiftly relieved of their duties.

If we don't start to amass points against Fulham and Brentford then we will likely be in the bottom three.

If I was the owner I would be looking at the World Cup break to get a new manager in. One who has some actual top flight managerial experience, rather the the two horse race that is the SPL.

No, Big Sam, that does not mean you.

Gerard was never going to cut it, far too inexperienced and relied very much on a new manager bounce to make his record look good. Ignore the first few games and its terrible. Villa seem all over the place at the moment and not many pundits are talking about it...

Well that result for Forest today wasn't expected smile and has narrowed up relegation battle at the bottom somewhat. That should give them a mental boost.
