Stranger things have happened - look how Moyes ended up at Utd.
That was Fergusons doing. Some sort of Scottish love in.

Can't imagine there's anyone at FSG/Liverpool championing Southgate.

To be fair Moyes had Everton finishing in and around European spots most seasons on a tiny transfer budget. He had a good plan A for games, but plan B was always try plan A harder

He also wasn’t given any money to spend whereas ETH has been given tons which he has wasted. Moyes was always slammed for buying Fellaini who I actually thought was underrated.

He also had a brilliant shot in him at times.

Seriously Flip… how does Southgate fit in to any of the top clubs?

Despite having a fabulous pool of players to pick from, not only has he won nothing but England play turgid stuff most of the time.

He reminds me of Roy Hodgson… a lovely chap, but nowhere near a top level manager/coach.
I wasn’t championing Southgate. I just find it weird that England managers rarely these days walk into top jobs. Almost like to be England manager nowadays means you’re not good enough to run a regular top club.

Which probably reflects the quality of manager we have for the National team.

I don’t think it’s particularly and English thing… How many top managers of any nationality manage at international level?

I don’t think youd choose to manage a national team if you're good enough to get a job at a top club aide.

Fair point - when you look at the list of all the England managers - it's not actually that long - England have had very few top class coaches. Eriksson, Capello perhaps. Then a few "highly regarded" like Venables, Graham Taylor, Bobby Robson...but really, it's not a sparkling list. And the only time we won something of course - and come CLOSE to winning something - has been on home soil.

He only signed 2 players, Fellani and Mata. He had Toni Kroos agreed as well and I have a feeling United pulled the plug.

I know lots of West Ham fans are calling for him to go, but I think they may regret that when he goes. Much like Everton fans did

A detailed summary of Cartaret's data analyses of the likely main candidates for the LFC job based on their results over the last few seasons. Worth a read.

I'd say that's a fair assessment on the whole.

When has that not been the case though, and not just for England? Incredibly rare for a top class manager at the height of their powers to go near international management. It's a retirement plan for most as essentially useless experience for a young manager with aspirations of top level club management.

Anyway, back to today and football that actually matters. Assume we're hoping for a draw in the City/Arsenal game chaps?

A draw and multiple red cards/non life threatening injuries to senior players, please.

Yeah I've reconsidered my "Arsenal to win as they're more likely to fall over later" opinion. An exhausting and injuring draw will be fine. Not much to ask...

And a hefty win for us against Brighton please. de Zerbi distracted, trying too hard to impress, getting it wrong for once and we marmalise them.

Good news coming out of the press conference on injuries as well. Looks like Ibou and Curtis were back in training yesterday and Ali, Trent and Jota will be back this week. Even Baj is training with the U21's.

Could do with some luck injuries wise for the rest of the season now as certainly haven't had any so far. Jota staying fit in particular could make all the difference as I'm convinced we'd have got results against City and Utd had he been available off the bench late on.
