Better times ahead but not this season, I think. I thought the Atalanta game was the worst I'd seen this season but this, today, in the PL... pfft.
Today we haven't necessarily played badly. We started terribly with no urgency. We've largely dominated the game whilst still being flaky as hell at the back on the counter. We've yet again not taken our chances which make it even more frustrating. Palace in truth have had their fair share too.type-r said:

Thats why we're not winning the league just relentless in this run in year after year.
Exactly at the same time that we're playing the worst I have seen in a long time.
2 pts behind with a game in hand.... most fans dream of this.Exactly at the same time that we're playing the worst I have seen in a long time.
Way too much negativity that on here that we can't win the league. Tomorrow will tell us a lot IMO - either it's business as usual and nothing changes - in which case I'm more inclined to regretfully agree or we come out hungry, determined and get the performance and result that shows that we are very much contenders and absolutely want it. Let's see but let's not write us off just yet.
Have to say, Salah looks done at the top level. Takes too many touches now, half an hour late to half chnaces, runs into rabbit holes. Not quite the same player he once was.
Not blaming him for today but he was for so long the cutting edge we had in this team. When he isn't firing, the team seems out of ideas. Without him in the team during AFCON, we were actually banging in the goals.

Salah was scoring before AFCON. He's once again come back from AFCON and looked completely out of sorts. Most on here said last time he was "finished and time to sell". I don't agree with that now either but God knows he shouldn't be an automatic starter when so out of form.
Pretty deflated but not surprised by today. Seeing the players look so gutted at the final whistle says a lot. They don't know what's gone wrong either.
Finish the season, reboot, come back stronger in August.

Have to say we have totally bottled it this year.
Let's be honest, we've muddled through most of the season pulling results out of our arse. Always likely to be unsustainable over 38 games.Looks like top 3 and a cup will have to do. Not terrible under the circumstances, and a good foundation for the incoming manager to build from.
The writing has been on the wall for sometime. Our energy and luck have both run out. Some players are out of form or not good enough. There's no spark to the team or manager anymore.
Disappointed but it's not hurting like it may have done in years gone by, because I pretty much expected this to happen.
We are not the team we used to be.

Well it's definitely hurting me having run the course for nearly the whole season. Might not have been expected at the very start but we've played well as a team for virtually the whole season, dominating play and still the 3rd highest scorers in the league despite wasting so many chances. Weren't we also the first team in Europe to score 100 goals?
I think fatigue of the season has finally caught up with us, going hard in four comps plus the injuries. It's been an excellent season in trutj but just so frustrating having come so close.

Which players aren't good enough? Disappointed but it's not hurting like it may have done in years gone by, because I pretty much expected this to happen.

Lurking Liverpool fan here….but I’ll have a go, of the team that started today :1) Salah - hit and miss, a bit too selfish, lost a couple of yards of pace. Presence overshadows the team.
2) Nunez - hard not to love his energy and attitude but far too unreliable to be the starting striker
3) Szob - after a promising start has slipped back to average, willing to give benefit of the doubt though.
