First time I'd heard his name was yesterday.

Feels like quite a gamble? I know almost nothing about him.

I guess the question is who of the managers you (we) have heard of and is available would you want?

From what I've read, Amorin was firm on 5 at the back, which doesn't work with our squad... too many midfielders and not enough CH's.

I'm open minded... Klopp was always going to be difficult to replace... as long as we don't get Jose!

I hope and pray that's paper talk. A potential new manager not being allowed to play (or overlooked because of) his preferred formation is insane!

If I remember correctly, FSG have made 3 managerial appointments in their time as owners.

1. An elder statesman who steadied the ship on an interim basis.
2. An up and coming manager, one showing promise, with some success at a smaller club
3. A proven winner with experience of breaking a hegemony

I wonder if we'll see an experienced interim manager in place until we can land someone from category 3.
We could probably pick up Jose M. if we want a cat. 3 manager?
I'd prefer Fat Sam.

I agree but if ours is a Pound Shop Pep, does that make Slot a Smart Price Erik?
I’ve never heard of him before either though so he’ll probably turn out to be another very good Liverpool manager. frown

I hadn't heard of Klopp particularly when he arrived. I don't think for 1 second, Edwards and co will give a hoot what social media fans think (given most of us know relatively little).

I'm not overwhelmed, nor am I underwhelmed - I trust them to make the right choice for the club from those who are available, or might be made to be available. I hadn't heard of him because I don't follow Dutch footy. Does that make me think he's a poor choice? No, not at all.

Clearly LFC haven't thought "ETH was crap so we'd better not choose a less successful Dutch manager".

Same here. Unlike players who's performances you get to see on a regular basis there is far more going on behind the scenes with managers, and I trust Edwards and co. to have looked at the available options and to make the right choice. At the end of the day none of this was planned for at the start of the season, so the club had to be reactive and play the cards they've been dealt which includes getting Edwards back in at short notice.

Will it work out? Only time will tell.

I do wonder when this info was added to Slot's wikipage however..

He also proclaims to have grown up a huge fan of Liverpool FC citing their successes during the 1980's as the thing that got him hooked on the sport.
Don't they always. smile

He style of play is high pressing, working hard off the ball to win it back. He also has worked to tight budgets and won things off the back off it. He likes to develop young players and his English is solid. He also appears to have charisma also.

Looks like Edwards mission was to go out and find FSG the best mini-Klopp version available. If the playing style is similar as per reports, it should make continuity fairly smooth.

I was about to say I was worried about him appearing on the scene, but am far less concerned after your post now. I would much rather have Amorin, given the posts I have seen about him since hearing about him 2 weeks ago. Previously Alonso was my clear favourite as a manager, despite not really paying attention to what he did after leaving us.

Doesn't matter, as long as gets them whitened by the end of year 3 in the job, he'll fit right in.

This is Anfield

And FWIW, I was alluding that the characteristics mentioned has Klopp's M.O. written all over it. Not that Slot is the bestest.

Klopp was a Top 5 league winner and a CL finalist while not managing the likes of Barca and Bayern. He was probably the hottest property in the manager world at the time.

Relatively low risk I think. I'd hate to have to follow Klopp,
