There was plenty of poor fare in the Championship and L1 before the arrival of Adkins, the 2 promotion seasons were fun because we were winning most of the time (a rare treat for a Saints fan).

I'm sure life outside the Prem won't be so Rose Tinted after a few seasons of midtable finishes and more defeats than wins.

About time too!
The bizarre thing about his sacking was that I was working at Staplewood on Monday night at the under-23's game and the bloke on my game at Opta in Leeds said "Ooh Pellegrino's been sacked" & I knew nothing! hehe

I can't see this changing anything, no matter who is brought in.

The issues run a lot deeper than 'just' the manager...

Most people at the club need sacking.

I'm watching this thread as an "interested outsider".

I'm a Swansea fan myself, my wife a Bournemouth fan (along with my sister-in-law) and her brother (and late father) both massive Southampton fans. So between the four of us we follow three clubs that seem destined to be in perpetual relegation scraps.

The guy who owns my local chippy is a Saints fan too, so there's often a bit of banter to be had with this 'ere 'Jack', but he's been a bit subdued lately. Is there really so little to be cheerful about at St Mary's this season?

I hope the change of manager allows Saints to pull the proverbial rabbit from the hat. After my initial misgivings about his appointment Carlos Carvalhal certainly managed to put a rocket under the Swansea squad. Whoever the Saints board appoints, I hope it goes well for you all. As much as I like to wind my BiL up, Southampton is one of those clubs I think most people are sad to see relegated.

Just don't go nicking our points when we play Saturday's postponed fixture though, eh! wink

There has been absolutely nothing to be cheerful about for a season and a half. The word toxic has been used numerous times. Any spirit there once was has been sucked out. The speed of the decline is also quite alarming. I don't know what the answer is but something significant needs to change.

Carvalhal has worked wonders for you guys. Seems a really nice chap as well.

The days of Koeman smirking to himself in a very smug manner as the 8th goal went in on that Saturday afternoon against Sunderland seems a long time ago now.

I remember asking my daughter at half time what she thought the score would be at full time, bearing in mind we were already 4-0 up.

8-0 she replied.

I should have put a tenner on that.

Good? Bad? Indifferent? I'm kind of resigned to championship football next season, regardless of manager, I've seen little spark from the players all season.

I'm ok that its to the end of the season as we might need a different type of manager in the championship. If we survive then we can look again. The players have a lot to answer for in all of this as well. Just because the system does not suit us should not mean that quality players go missing.

Reports of a £2M bonus if we stay up. That should motivate him!

He can't be any worse than MP, can he? There's a glimmer of a chance to stay up if he can spark (sorry) some life back in to the players.

Hopefully, it will be a complete turn around, as per Leicester(?)

He couldn't get the best out of the players at Stoke who he knew so no idea.
The issues are deeper than the manager. Puel realised what he had available and played football to suit and got sacked.

This could be interesting today, providing the match is still on. Hopefully the players will be a bit more up for it than recently!

I think the weather up there has been a lot better than we've had down here.

Will be interesting to see whether Hughes gets an instant response from the players.

don't seem to have as much energy as Wigan and seem to want to get risk of the ball every time we have it
