Silly by your owners not to have taken the VVD money in the summer and re invested it
Stubbornness is gonna cost you prem survival for me
It's not even the VVD saga. It's the fact they left it way too long to sack Pellegrino. The makeshift defence hasn't been brilliant, but all the life was sucked out of the team long before Christmas by all the negative tactics.Stubbornness is gonna cost you prem survival for me
The board is to blame, but contrary to what all the pundits and most of the media (who just regurgitate the same old bks about selling the best players, or sacking Puel even though he got to 8th and a cup final) say, it's purely an inability to act by sacking Pellegrino early enough. Whether that's being ill-prepared, or arrogant, or ignorant....or all three combined, I couldn't say, but 95% of Saints fans could see this last year.
Hughes has got the team scoring again, and there has been a marked improvement since he arrived, but it's too little, too late. He doesn't stand a chance of keeping that bunch of fairies out of the bottom three. If that squad does avoid the drop, it'll be through luck rather than merit.

But still you could have got your money in and invested into the right players - better than what you have now, you would have bought 3 or 4 first teamers for the money we paid for VVD.... to kick up such a fuss then sell him a few months later makes them look right tits... I agree VVD should have gone in the summer, rather than messing around for 6 months delaying the inevitable. But on the positive side, at least we didn't piss the money up against the wall, and can use it to help get through a season (or a few season's in the Championship). If we'd got that money earlier in the year we'd probably have overpaid for 1 or 2 average players and still been in the same position we're in now.

We didn't have much choice but to cave in eventually. You can't say no to £75m for a player that cost you £12m. The bin dippers had been tapping him up for so long, he was effectively poisoning the dressing room. The money hasn't been reinvested well (or at all), I agree, but that isn't the reason for the problems at the moment. The way the team is currently playing, we'd have been mid-table comfortably by now if they'd been playing like this last year. Saints fans don't expect a win against Arsenal or Chelsea. They expect a plucky effort, and the result is whatever the result is. But against WHU; Brighton; Stoke; Burnley; Palace....these are games that we can't afford to be throwing away earlier in the season.
On the flipside, be nice to get away from all the money and the bullst of the PL for a while. Some of the happiest years recently were under Adkins in the EFL. And, if the skates get promoted, we get a derby again (instead of nobheads who think Bournemouth is a derby...)

You get 100m even if going down If we'd got that money earlier in the year we'd probably have overpaid for 1 or 2 average players and still been in the same position we're in now.
Interesting to hear the pundits' views on the relegation odds on MOTD this morning.
They seemed to think that Swansea (Yay! Go Swans!) and Saints would both escape the drop, and that Huddersfield would slip below the line due to their dreadful goal difference.
I like the idea of Saints staying up, but not if that means nicking any of Swansea City's points!

Yep, agreed. Swansea will be ok, I think they'll pick up enough points from Bournemouth (a), then Saints and Stoke at home. Even if they lose to Saints I think they'll be safe.
Huddersfield have a trip to Man City, then Chelsea, then home to Arsenal on the final day, so on paper a lot harder and I reckon could struggle. I'm just hoping Saints can pick up the points in the meantime and bridge the gap.

Saints will have to take 3points off Swansea or Everton and hope to hell Huddersfield don’t shock one of the top teams. If Huddersfield get a point somewhere saints need two results. I can’t see them getting a win and a draw in the last three games.
Swansea should get out of it. Stoke is their last game and they will be gone by then. .
West Ham? Could be.....
37 points should be safe. Or 36 points and good goal difference. GD could save saints if they can get to 36.
If Huddersfield fail to get anything then they are done for. Just think someone will slip up against them. Think they will get points from a visiting directionless Arsenal. Perhaps an extra time winner to send saints down.

2 seriously important points dropped there.
Massively. We need to beat Swansea on Tuesday otherwise I think we are down. They play Stoke, who are ready relegated and we have City. I know who I'd rather be playing on the last day of the season!
I'm actual more confident about staying up than at any time in the past month or so.
If we can beat Swansea tomorrow then we are pretty much safe as goal difference means we'd need a thrashing against City and Swansea would have to also thrash Stoke.
Huddersfield could very well be drawn into things. Their final game is Arsenal, Wenger's final game, the Gunners will be well up for that.
