It was an astonishing appointment given how badly he did at Stoke.
We didn't call him Mad Nath for nothing

Yep.

Better late than never, but the damage has already been done by the totally embarrassing failure that was the Jones' experiment,

He should never have been allowed to set foot in St Marys in the first place.

Or - different point of view - an understandable appointment given how well he’d done on a shoestring at Luton?

Not given the way it worked out,the way pretty much everyone predicted.
He'd proven to be out of his depth at a bigger club than Luton, not just a little out of his depth, massively so ....
Saints are a similar size to Stoke and in a division higher with even more pressure on him.
People seem to overlook how important Mick Harford was at Luton.

Just as we thought a month back. With all the top teams to play over the rest of the season there is not one shred of hope left. Since the 12th November his record was eight matches played. seven lost and only three points out of twenty four. But I can only point the finger at the director's box for their terrible management of the club.

I just saw this on the BBC.

Just an observation as a neutral but I didn't even twig he was actually bought in and they paid £4M to his old club yikes

I thought he was the reserve team coach or someone off the coaching staff who'd stepped in as caretaker until the end of the season after Hasenhüttl left.

Bloody hell.

He’s an absolute legend around these parts. I reckon Paul Hart was a big influence, too.

Well Hart came with Jones to Stoke so whatever influence he had he didn't use it biggrin

It’s also down to the squad buying totally into what Jones is trying to achieve - he demands hard work, high pressing and total commitment.

Tactically he could be a little naive at times, and it was infuriating going 1-0 up then trying to sit on the lead, or being 2-2 in the final ten minutes and Jones bringing on a defender to settle for the draw. We’ve gained a number of points from Rob Edwards making positive, attacking changes and going for it, and we play better football, too.

I’m appreciative of the work Jones did for us both times, especially the second when we looked absolutely dead and buried after Graeme Jones’ (great coach, poor man manager) disastrous time in charge.

However, I’m not one of the Luton fans who seem slightly bitter NJ left - he’s perfectly entitled to try and better himself, he did well for us, we got great compensation money for him (better than most players we’ve sold!) and thanks to our astute board, we seem to have moved forward with our replacement.

I’m sorry for Jones it didn’t work out at Southampton for him, and unfortunately I think his brand has been tarnished due to the experiences in red & white stripes. He’ll definitely get another job at L1/Championship level, though.

Well, it seems that Gerard is possible according to the bookies. As said by Captain Slow above, I believe some managers are made for the second division and not the first. Steve Bruce would be one, and I believe that both Gerard and Lampard are also looking like it too. Mark Hughes is a fourth division manager now, having managed Man City at one time. The only person who I believe could possibly save the Saints now is Sam Allardyce. He has a brilliant record of keeping teams in the Premier Division, although it seems that even God would have trouble doing so. Why the hell we never approached Dyche when Hasenhüttle left I don't know.

Probably not Sheffield United or Sunderland though... hehe

I'd almost count Nathan as a friend as he was assistant manager at Yeovil when I worked for the media team. A lot of the stuff I've read about him online these past few days is so far wide of the mark to be laughable; he is committed 100% to anything he does which then sparks off other stuff if not controlled properly. I wish him all the luck in the world and many a manager has "failed" at one club then gone on to bigger and better things later in their career.

He's been successful at 1 club and not only failed but failed miserably at 2 clubs,2 bigger clubs.
He seems to put so much pressure on himself with the rubbish he talks that failure is almost inevitable

With the media gunning for him, some of the things he said in press conferences were of course twisted and only partially quoted. The naivety was to keep saying such things to make himself an easy target - the time was in my book to give generic answers, close ranks and concentrate on the job in hand.
