Yeah, €20m euro i think is being reported for him. Insane money for an 18 year old imo...

We do need another CB and I'm sure Bielsa knows that, so I wouldn't be surprised. We've still got space for a loan player as well, you're allowed 2 in the PL and we've only got Jack H at the moment.
Interest now in Rodrigo De Paul, an Argentinian international for £35m. Would be another huge signing and would slot in for Hernandez perfectly.
And an highly rated 18yr old Croatian defender.
You have to assume our owner and his management team know what they're doing but we certainly seem to be splashing the cash at the moment - just hope we don't do a Fulham from a couple of seasons back or, worse still, a Leeds from 16 years ago!!

If we hear news about them purchasing a £250k fish tank that's when I'll start to worry laugh

Number one thing to bear in mind. Bielsa doesn’t go after a player unless he really wants him. He’s a man who does his research and has forgotten more about football than any of us will ever know.

Orta et al can’t just force a player on him as he tells them no flat out so I have every faith in our two signings so far. We are bolstering the squad with a few key players rather than making wholesale changes and that leaves me feeling hopeful. Liverpool will be a tough first test but I expect out lads to rise up to the challenge.

Fulham tried to replace pretty much their entire squad with something like 15 players.

We're clearly just strengthening in the areas we need to.

Also, Marcelo Bielsa biggrin

Yes, I agree our approach doesn't seem to be the same as the wholesale changes made by Fulham and to be honest nor should it be - the existing squad won the Championship easily and IMO they've earned their opportunity in the Premier League. That said we clearly needed to strengthen in some areas - and replace the likes of Ben White - so I'm very happy to see the new faces; my concern isn't so much about the quality of who we've bought, it's more can we afford them all? Hopefully we can but I'm afraid I'm still scarred (perhaps permanently!) by the Ridsdale era when we lived the dream by putting everything on black; I just hope (and believe!) Radrizzani has more commercial acumen than that!

And of course even in Bielsa's time not every player we've recruited has been a rip-roaring success; I'm not sure what the latest is with Big Kev but I suspect it's going to work out at one of the most expensive 40-odd minutes of football ever....

Ben White signed a new deal at Brighton, I guess that ends the transfer speculation, even though it was a long shot anyway judging by the last week or two of negotiations.

We've already signed a replacement anyway so we knew it wasn't going to happen.

I have to say I'm a bit surprised Ben White's staying with Brighton; they obviously didn't want to sell him to us but I thought there was a fair chance a club established in the top half of the Premier League might have come in for him. Regardless, good luck to him - he did a great job for us last season and I just hope he now gets the decent amount of game time he deserves and doesn't end-up as an expensive bench warmer. Given the right opportunities I definitely think he could make the England squad, perhaps sooner rather than later...

I suspect Brighton just got too precious about him and way waaaay over-valued him, to the extent that all the other clubs found better things to do with their money. The result being that they got nothing for him and had to pay out their own money instead. Don't be surprised if he doesn't integrate with the team and never quite fulfils his potential. Small fish, big pond and all that.

Yes, Brighton's valuation was definitely pushing it for a player with no Premier League experience! Obviously their official line is they never wanted to sell him anyway - and hence they're happy to retain him as their player - and there may well be some truth in that. However, now they're keeping him I just hope he does get the opportunity to show and fulfil his potential - he would certainly have got that with us but sadly that ship's now sailed, at least for the 2020/21 season...

I'd have loved to get Ben White here permanently as I'm sure all Leeds fans would but we've signed a young, highly rated German international for less than half what White might have cost us so its not exactly the worst thing in the world. Wish Ben White all the best in the future and maybe one day he'll be back.

Exactly.

And with the spare change it looks like this highly rated Croatian 18yr old will come in so I think we've done well.

Exciting times. Although we've had most of our best players away for a week and a half and the 2 new signings have only just arrived. Not ideal preparation. Could be April before Bielsa deems them worthy of inclusion in the first team laugh

Here we are chaps. Less than 24 hours away from our first game in the Premier League after quite a while away.

It’s been a long old slog from the League One days, just a shame a sodding pandemic had to ruin everything. Watching it at home won’t feel the same but not much that can be done about that.

Tough first test but hopefully we can make a good account of ourselves. Wonder if the Rodders and Koch will feature, Bielsa seemed to think that they were ready. Somehow Forshaw still isn’t match fit!

Not many teams get a result at Anfield so to be realistic I don't see us coming away with anything this evening. However, as you say, the hope is we at least give a good account of ourselves and make Liverpool work for it; the fear is we're blown away and end-up losing by four or more - which obviously wouldn't be good for confidence - but I'm hoping that won't happen! smile

Don't think we'll win but as long as we make them work for it and not get stuffed then that will OK.

Disappointed to lose in the end but thought we came out of it with a lot of credit tonight; ok, Liverpool weren't at their best but we gave them plenty to think about which is more than most teams managed last season, especially at Anfield! If we can keep playing at that level I think we'll do alright!
