FFS Leeds!

woohoo

4th minute of injury time! Feels like we won the sodding league! Hell of a goal too.

Raphinha should generate a big chunk of very useful money. And you get a lot more for players in the premier league than in the championship.

Well, expect the worst, scream the bloody house down when Harrison smashes one in deep into added time!

I was at a footy tournament with my eldest which finished at just gone 4, dashed back to the car, saw Gelhart had scored (and then it'd been disallowed and thought that was going to sum up our day).

What a feeling - seeing it play out in front of my eyes, I felt more elation that we did when we walked to promotion in empty stadiums.

Bring on next season, Radz has already come out and said the squad will be strengthened and as mentioned, it looks like Aaronson from RB Saltzburg is on his way who looks like he's going to be a big missing piece in terms of centre mid creativity. Lots of up and coming young lads been mentioned (one from Scotland, a full back?) and Garner (?) from Forest if they don't go up maybe... and god do we need a replacement/quality backup for Paddy...

Definite need for a left back. Firpo has been an expensive mistake. Seem to remember saying that last year with Alioski but we went backwards

Anybody any thoughts on Charlie Taylor coming back? Is Tarkowski worth a punt for a CB back option? Or do we have enough if Cooper, Llorente and Kock stay fit with Strujk as the option

Klich has been poor, Bill plays his heart out but we need a back up RB, especially with Dallas out long term

For me we need another keeper, a back up utility player, an LB, some creativity in midfield and a backup striker for PB. Gelhart looks good but we need an option to change things up as he's only slight

Thoughts?

100% this, yet some 'fans' still say his head was turned in January rolleyes

Mostly agree but I'd have no problem with Klaesson stepping in as backup keeper, looked good in U23's and didn't look phased when called upon for the first team.

Well, by the skin of our teeth we did it. But it wasn't exactly convincing, at the end of the day our survival was as largely down to Burnley's lack of ability. Still, credit to our boys for getting a result at Brentford under difficult circumstances. Although, you did wonder if they would when they equalised after going down to 10 men.

Hopefully a good summer of recruitment ahead and probably a bit of a clear out as well. I would like to see James and Rodrigo sold, as they are simply not justifying their combined £50m+ fees, but we'd likely take a big haircut if they're sold.

We've got to keep Phillips, I'd say that's 50/50 at the moment, but you'd hope his connection with the club will trump any other offers in front of him.

I'd also like to see Drameh be challenged to make the right back spot his own, now that Ayling will probably miss the beginning of next season.

I'd love to see Raphinha stay, what a player! Even if we could keep him till the January window after he hopefully has a great world cup. It was good to see his emotion and commitment on Sunday. I think he does a good connection to the club, team and fans.

Realistically though, he will most likely be off and I think no Leeds fans should begrudge him that or have any resentment or bitterness towards him. He deserves to be in a better team than Leeds are now or likely to be for a number of years. Just be grateful, we've had 2 good seasons out of him.

You clearly never witnessed Russell Doig at his imperious best then.

The weak links for me from that team yesterday are:

Cooper
Firpo
Rodrigo

If we can bring in a quality CB, LB and backup for Bamford, keep Phillips and add some attacking creativity to that midfield too, then who knows.

What about Peter Haddock?

Who's the worst you've ever seen? My Dad always said Peter Barnes was the worst signing he ever saw - I believe he was the club record signing until we resigned Lukic in 1990

He has recently changed his opinion to Firpo

Loved the fish!

Barnes was a very expensive mistake. John Stiles was up there with the worst I’ve seen too. Playing in his dad and uncles shadow probably didn’t help.

One of the worst in my time (born 1986 so mid-90's onwards) was Paul Ocon. In terms of ablitiy relative to the rest of the team and the standing of the club at the time.

Overall worst, quite a few candidates from the League One days. Feels unfair to single out any in particular but I remember a striker who was so bad I've forgotten his name, think he came from Stockport County and didn't register a single goal?

Must have been so tough in the late 70s/early 80s

Dad grew up idolising John Charles. Into the 60s and 70s watching Bremner/Charlton/Giles/Lorimer and the rest

From there to Arthur Graham/Kevin Hird and the like.

I started going the year we went down so didn't know any better. Growing up loved John Sheridan/Tommy Wright/Bobby Davison

Best midfield I ever saw in a Leeds shirt

Strachan Batty McAllister Speed - possibly rose tinted to some extent as Dacourt/Kewell and the rest were pretty special too

Although Vinnie was a legend as well wink

We must be a similar age. Sheridan broke my heart when he went. I remember him scoring a goal against Derby where someone rolled a free kick back to him, he flicked it up, volleyed it and it flew in. The stuff of dreams. He was my favourite player, even named the family dog after him. I couldn’t utter his name after he left and renamed the dog Dave (I thought about Batty, but wouldn’t have felt comfortable shouting that across the rec), which confused it to fk. biggrin

To be fair to Alioski he was playing out of position at left back but nevertheless he was still probably better than Firpo who, as you say, has been an expensive mistake. I'm also a fan of Charlie Taylor and would be very happy to see him back in a Leeds shirt; IMO he's a proven PL quality left back and he probably wouldn't cost a huge amount, especially now Burnley have been relegated and might be under pressure to sell players.

I think CB is less of a problem - in addition to those you've mentioned we also have Cresswell who I think deserves a chance.

I think Klich went off the boil towards the end of last season and hasn't really rediscovered his form since; so yes, I think we need at least one quality midfielder to work alongside a hopefully fit Kalvin Phillips. If KP goes I think we'll need at least two new midfielders in the summer.

At RB, personally I'd say to Cody Drameh here's your chance to make the position your own given Ayling's going to miss the first month or so of the new season. Potentially I think he's good enough to step-up and Bill's injury gives him the opportunity to prove it.

Not sure about the keeper - although I've not seen much of him Klaesson looks pretty competent so I don't think I'd see that position as a top priority. The others I'd agree with and in my view it would be nice to see Gelhardt have a run playing with Bamford; he can't lead the line in the same way but I think he's a more natural goalscorer and could perhaps be effective playing off Bamford?

In addition, I fear we're going to need a replacement for Raphina as I don't think there's any way he'll be with us next season. I see Noa Lang's name is already being touted again but regardless of who comes in I just hope we get full value for Raphina if he goes - if Grealish was worth £100m the talk of £50m for Rapha seems well short of the mark to me.

And as well as bringing players in we perhaps also need to think about moving some out? For me the likes of Firpo, Rodrigo and James have all been expensive mistakes and I also question whether Klich, Forshaw and Cooper are really PL quality. The squad needs a bit on an overhaul IMO....

We look to have signed Aaronson which is promising, the deal was on hold pending the premiership survival. Will be very interesting to see how he fits in the team as I believe he is more of an attacking midfielder than an all out striker.

Would love to see Gelhardt have a good run too, lad has got a lot of promise and is strong on the ball, tracks back and isn't lazy like Rodrigo.

Everyone is convinced Raphinha is a done deal and out of here this summer but I'm not so sure. That picture alone of him in the stands with a face full of sheer joy makes me think we might have him for next season too. Might be wrong but hoping I'm right as on a good day he is up there with the best.

Would be nice if Raphinha surprises us and stays a bit longer, but sadly it sounds like his heart is set on Barca and promises have been made. It would be possible that Barcelona screw him over and keep Dembele instead though if they can convince him to stay.

It does seem like Raphinha has a genuine affection for Leeds though. Did anyone see him walking the length of the pitch on his knees after the game on Sunday? roflApparently a South American ritual to repay god for the wish you requested
