Care to share your opinion on the sponsorships/strategic partnerships utd have with companies/government authority from those bastions of human rights, Qatar, Russia and Saudi Arabia and how said sponsorships/partnerships will help them to make up EIGHTEEN points on City and SIXTEEN points on Liverpool?

It’s a well known strategy in politics that when there are major problems at home you deflect attention by pointing out other situations and hope no one notices how st things are.

Really? laugh Nothing I say or do can deflect attention away from what's going on at United at the minute. To suggest otherwise is nonsense.

To answer willyeckerslike, happy to share my thoughts/opinion. I don't like the club being associated with questionable regimes, most normal people would probably agree with me. To date, we've taken money from companies based in countries with shall we say issues, as have many other football clubs. However outright ownership by the Saudi's, were it to happen, would mean me nailing my flag to the moralistic mast and see me no longer supporting the club financially. I'd watch the matches on TV, hope that United win, but the club would be broken for me and like a lot of United fans that went and set up FC United of Manchester over the Glazer buyout that would spell the end.

I posted the article on here as it was news relating to Manchester City nothing else. I rarely post in here got enough going on in my life to not feel the need to but I found the article and situation interesting and was interested in hearing the opinion of you lot, the fans about how you felt. I pretty much got the response I anticipated.

Pleased the lad's been released now and can get back on with his life.

So from what I understand it would take "outright ownership by the Saudis" rather than their current Strategic Partnership with the Saudi government for you to stop "financially" supporting the club. Interesting view that there are differing levels of involvement with the regime and a point at which would trigger your moral and social conscience. Convenient is that. Human rights are human rights.

I sense hypocrisy, if you regard City as broken because they associate themselves with such regimes then utd are also broken, or are they only a bit broken?

I’ve already said that I don’t like the fact we are associated with the Saudi’s. However a partnership can be broken at anytime. I for one hope it is. I cringed the other day when I saw pictures of Glazer with the Saudi delegation.

Outright ownership is completely different. Once we’ve sold out to the devil we’ll be just like you. fk that.

Outright ownership is not completely different at all,

You either associate yourselves with the regime or you don't.

You either follow your conscience or you don't.

You either take the moral high ground or the King's shilling.

You either dance with the devil or you don't.

You are either a hypocrite or you aren't.

It's nonsense to state otherwise, you can't tailor make your chosen level of moral outrage to suit your (non) argument.

You're right, I'll send my season tickets back immediately.

I guess we all have a limit of what we are prepared to put up with when things are happening outside of our control, if you want to character assassinate me then great, go ahead.

Your owners are a bunch of s who bought your club as a PR exercise. Saudi owners would be buying mine for exactly the same reasons. Abu Dhabi (City), Saudi (United), Qatar (PSG), playthings to try and improve the worlds perception of them.

Outright ownership IS different despite your protestations. Once they have us lock stock and (oil) barrel it's over for me.

You carry on celebrating being owned by a man who has been to watch 1 match in the time that he's owned you.

I suspect, and detect from your previous posts that until I mentioned the strategic partnership with the Saudi government you had no idea that it existed and, after a bit of research, you proceeded to impose “provisos” on when you would actually be sufficiently outraged to call time on your “financial” involvement with the club. I can’t blame you for not being aware, after all it’s not something they would want to broadcast.

Nice try but no cigar.

The only celebrating I am currently doing is being Champions and EIGHTEEN points superior to utd. biggrin

AD has stated his view of his club's involvement in these regimes (a pretty reasonable one IMHO)

Why don't you do the same?

Because I wasn't asked but seeing as you mention it:

I am not happy with many less than acceptable things the Russians/Saudis/Qataris/UAE/Americans/British etc commit/have committed around the world. However, none of this leads me to pass judgement on the way my club's owners or any other club's owners run their football affairs.

To suggest that anniesdad or any other utd fan is having a go at City and their owners out of some singular sense of moral outrage is nonsense. As the sticks they have/had beaten us with in the past dwindle they look for other areas to comfort themselves in their times of misery at the decline of their club.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I give up, you're right I knew nothing about our "partnership" with the Saudi's, it was completely unknown to me until you pointed it out. rolleyes

You're clearly a man(?) that likes to win an argument, however, I'm suspecting that actually you're my wife.

On a football front it hurts seeing City doing well in the prem and us, well not. Thankfully if United never do win another football match in their lifetime I've got some pretty good memories to take to the grave with me. smile

Sorry pal, more like he couldn't give a st. Bragging rights with his pyscho mates and positive PR for his country. That's all City means to him. Shame really.

IMHO of course. wink

Apparently according to Kaldoon (our chairman who is rarely away from the Etihad), Sheikh Mansour and his kids never miss a game as he has his own match day feed to the palace.

So, thinking about it, he is an armchair, plastic supporter from somewhere other than Manchester who watches the games on T.V. pretending to be a real supporter and mocking those who actually go to games...…....probably a utd fan then. biggrin

Yes, no complaints today.

Chelsea played well and deserved to win, we should have taken our chances, but Pep didn't seem unduly worried.

Might bring us down to earth a bit, you can't win every game unfortunately.

Chelsea played at the top of their game in the 2nd half and we didn’t.
In the first half we had complete control of the game but didn’t make the most of it.
Fair result tbh.
I’m not in the slightest worried though with KDB on the way back and Mendy and Sergio in the sidelines.

As great as city are & they really are i just feel that sometimes they lack a Diego Costa like Centre forward that will stand toe to toe with the centre half.

Pep is terrific but i'm not sure that he knows how to win ugly at times. Having said that the game could have been over in the first 20 minutes or so.

At least it makes the Premier league a little more exciting for the chasing pack.
