The Official Everton thread...

the reality check is that spuds front line had Kane, Alli, Eriksson, and Son, all really good players. We had a winger playing up top with DCL. Our bench had Tosun and Niasse on it. The only one of our side today who would even get close to Spuds side was Siggurdson and he wouldn't get a game either.

The gap between the top 6 and the rest of the pack is huge, it's essentially a mini league in itself.
In order for any team to catch them up on a regular basis, there needs to be some serious investment, along with finding a couple of gems and a decent mangerial appointment.
Everton have spent a fortune. The issue is your last point. Ssssssilva sets up attacking sides and completely forgets to defend. He's been found out again. In order for any team to catch them up on a regular basis, there needs to be some serious investment, along with finding a couple of gems and a decent mangerial appointment.
Watford fans are chuckling away.

It more than likely always will be. Match day revenue and commercial revenue helps in that respect. TV revenue helps the little clubs ALOT but if you compare Man Utd’s £112m matchday income compared to Everton’s £14m, it’s night and day. Some of the clubs are lucky the TV revenue is so high. In order for any team to catch them up on a regular basis, there needs to be some serious investment, along with finding a couple of gems and a decent mangerial appointment.
I read Cenk Tosun is on £120k+ a week and he is sat on the bench probably to be moved on in the next window at a loss. Only issue there is who will pay them wages and will he be happy to sit on the bench rather than take a £60k loss a week and go and play somewhere else.

I was shocked at this - Everton have spent more net than Liverpool over last 5 years
https://www.transfermarkt.com/premier-league/fuenf...
So the investment has been there
A fair chunk was Steve Walsh and Ronald Koeman spending money (badly) like it was going out of fashion. They signed too many players that played in similar positions. https://www.transfermarkt.com/premier-league/fuenf...

Also if you're comparing clubs, don't forget Liverpool are starting from a beter squad position and have recieved far higher transfer fees for players that you've sold which helps the net spend massively. We only recieved a decent fee for Lukaku, £140m for ino helps balance the books and you even managed to get £32m for Benteke

Stones sold for £50mBut what is clear is Everton has made considerable investment but not bought well, something we were guilty of pre Klopp era (hello Andy Carroll)
Here's my thought lads, genuine thoughts too. I'm prepared to take any flak that may come my way as well and welcome comments as to why I may be 100% wrong in these thoughts.
I think it all went wrong in a big way when Moysie was poached. OK some loathed the guy but many wanted him to remain, he was no Alex Ferguson as it was proved later but in general he put teams out that fought for the shirt and did take us to a 4th spot, Utd would never have poached him if he was a loser, I bet they don't come after Silva anyway lol. We've had 5 managers since who've not nearly matched him.
The trick I think we missed was not giving Big Dunc the job straight away, or at least after Roberto went.
The only true success's we've had have been with ex legends at the helm in the form of big Joe and Howard, once they went we had the Walter years and so on, just as tragic as this.
Continuity is what seems to bring success. Look at our neighbours, Shankley, Paisley. Dalglish etc, all winners and red through and through.............when that all stopped and outsiders came in the ship sank for many years up until now.
Imagine Dunc in charge, would he have signed Tosun lol?.....would he feck. Would he have shirkers in the team.........not a chance. Would he waste money on sh@t he knew he was better than? haha
It's too late for him now, the moment has gone, we're a team of mercenaries apart from maybe Seamus and a couple of others, none of them know big Duncs legacy now.
I'll bet my house he'd not have done any worse than the expensive and costly rabble we've had at the helm for last few years.
When Silva goes what next, another unproven no mark with no track record on mega wages?
I'm seriously worried about all of this, the Moysie days were glorious compared to this.
Just look through this seasons results game by game and something is very badly wrong which I'm damned if I know how they'll sort it now. I'm surprised Bill never pushed for this.
The money he could have saved in wages, appointment fees and redundancy pay, and as I say it'd have been impossible for Duncan Ferguson to have done any worse.
