Another very good signing in Pope and for what sounds like a bargain price.

Heard Botman is done too, so that's a great start to the window if so.

Just heard the same.
Ekitike fiasco is starting to get a bit annoying now.

The Ekitike deal is a farce, but I’m actually very pleased with the way the club are dealing with it.

The news about Botman is great, particularly given we’ve been after him for a while.

Ekitike is all but off, maybe the kid wants to stay in France, not ready for the move etc. Maybe his agent is just being a greedy bd..

Very much sounds like the latter, but who knows. If it is, then I’m glad we’re holding our ground.

+1 to that the opinions above. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. We need players who want to be at the club and we need to not be mindlessly ripped off and/or messed about. Club is looking like a professionally run outfit these days.

Morning all.

Have the lunatics from the takeover disappeared now? Safe to renter and talk about actual football?

Think we’re having a very good window so far in terms of incoming. A striker clearly needed to bolster the attack, but if we get that I’d be very happy with the work done.

I’d like to see a few more out the door though, that seems trickier, prem wages due to Ashley not changing the squad I suspect. There’s some whose time has come, and gone, and some who deserve to be playing and clearly won’t be.

So that's 2 x England internationals in their prime, a very highly rated dutch international 22 year old and a pair of very solid 250+ premier league games experienced players for about 90 million quid. That's less than 1 x harry maguire.

Great business so far and exactly where it was needed. You're right though - there's going to be quite a clear out coming.

Nice to see you posting again Ellroy!

The nutters will always be sniffing around. Just wait till we win something or displace one of the "top 6", they'll all be back out then.

We've done some really good business so far with, hopefully, more to come.

Plenty in the squad to chop out though. The problem being Premier League money for Championship talent.

Gayle, Clark, Hendrick, Fede, I can all see going if they can be shifted. On top of that, I wouldn't be disappointed to see the back of Lascelles, Murphy, Manquillo or Miggy.

I wouldn’t disagree with any of those names leaving and I’d only shed a tear for Almiron who always gives his all and been a good servant to the Toon. If Lascelles stays or goes, we need a new captain for next season. Makes me think we need to bring in a player that can be the figurehead for Howe’s philosophy on the pitch and help the team develop to its full potential. I don’t see anybody in the current ranks that meets the criteria to be a leader on the pitch.

Cheers pal.

I wonder who we’ll get in up front? The Ekitike deal seems to be drifting away to my eye. If he doesn’t want to come/ greedy agent etc then there has to be a point where we move on to plan B, whomever that maybe.

Ekitike isn't coming and, frankly, we don't need those characters in the club, either players or agents. It sounds to me as though the agent tried it on and the club said no thanks.

I'm also unsure where ASM will be next season. There's a lot of fluff around about Spurs / Chelsea interest in him and there's usually no smoke without fire in these things.

If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. Not arsed, I trust our new owners to do the business. Anyone who doesn't want to be here really isn't wanted. I'm super happy with the way the club has conducted its business since they took over.

Nice to see you back ellroy, thought you retired somewhere far away with no care in the world and no internet.

I think Trippier will make a great leader, he seems a natural.

Not even Trippier? He's been making a very strong case for himself and the other players say that they have a massive respect for his international experience.

Thinking about it, Trippier wouldn’t be a bad shout. Hopefully he will stay injury free and can be ever present in the team.

Trippier for Captain would make sense to me, although Wilson when fit could also lead the team.

Like most things with him though it’s a concern over fitness and not his other brilliant capabilities.

Mind you, if we keep signing Brazilians………….

News is that Sven Botman has passed his medical and will sign imminently.

Just need to start shipping the deadwood out now.

Indeed.

I hope Gayle gets somewhere decent I feel we’ve treated him poorly. Keeping him on the books yet hardly giving him a kick.
