Darlo made a couple of good stops. Man of the match for me.

So Rafa hasn't even been told the budget for the window yet? What a joke Ashley and his crew are.

Just please leave.

It's a funny one because I imagine many managers are not given a specific budget, they just get an agreement from the relevant money man on a transfer by transfer basis.

I think the difference with Rafa is that he knows Ashley won't make much money available so needs a budget to know how to distribute it and what players to target.

Is it a ruse though just to avoid everyone knowing that we've got money to spend and knowing that we need to spend it?

I doubt it myself knowing the track record of our incompetent owner

Fat quinny has been saying he’s heard a deal is done, wonder if that rumour it’s actually done and the Beeb and an exclusive announcement on Saturday is actually true?

Not holding my breath.

He also retweeted a fake sky sports news account so I doubt the reliability of his sources.

The rumour about 6th Jan has been around on Twitter for a couple of weeks which makes me think it's almost certainly bullst.

I am cynical by nature but I can't help thinking about Barry Moat.

Completely forgot absolutely that chancer.

Have to say I’m in agreement about the 6th thing. Why would you announce this kind of thing on 3rd round Saturday? Makes no sense at all. You’d surely want to grab as many headlines as possible?

Well its the 11th of January and Rafa wanted all the deals done and sorted by the 20th.

Any realistic signs of movement? No.

What a way to run any kind of business where you've got deadlines and a recruitment issue. Frankly laughable, but do you expect anything else from this sent of clowns.

Rumours this morning that an outfit from Dubai are in the running to buy us and they'll pay Ashley's valuation of £350m.

That said, it looks like the story originates from The Daily Fail so I'm not exactly convinced of the authenticity.

Could be journo bks, could be an attempt by Ashley to force Stavely's hand, could be genuine....

I wish something would bloody happen already!!

It was in the fail last night, unnamed, no interest until relegation is avoided, so no deal for weeks, certainly no cash during the window etc etc etc

It strikes me that this could be a pet journo from Ashley’s stable muddying the waters.

Anyway at home to the welsh, how bloody come they can play in England? It strikes me as we’d be better off with Celtic and the Huns, be an easier journey for the way trips and more cash to boot.

I digress, another vitally important game. Another must win almost, as if we do we’d almost shut the lid on them for the drop.

Gayle, what the hell is up with him? He couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo at the minute. Clearly out of his depth at this level.

It’s coming to something when we dodge a bullet at home thanks to Joselu.

How obvious is it that we need a proper goalscorer? It’s looking like a long tough run to the end of the season to me.

Look on the bright side, at least we didn’t lose. We’ll get nothing from the next game....

Indeed, I reiterate my thoughts from the last one, let’s not turn up and just take the 3 on GD!

A goalscorer however expensive, would be cheaper than relegation. We should be pulling out the stops to get someone in as it would be the difference. We create chances but waste them.

Absolutely, the issue is who?

To get a proven 20+ goals a season striker, you're looking at probably £30 million. You could probably get someone for half that, but they'd either be youngster with potential (e.g. Perez) or unproven in the Premier League. Both of which come with risks that we can't afford to take.

So if you go back to your proven £30m striker; you then need to find someone that wants to come to Newcastle or incentivise them by paying circa £100k + a week, which doesn't fit 'the model'.

I don' think the issue has ever been about the upfront cost, it's always been about wages and re-sale. Very difficult to find a decent striker that ticks all the boxes, hence why we've had so many misfires. We're obsessed with find another Demba Ba or Papiss Cisse (when he had the wonder season).

Time will tell on this, but I'm not optimistic about this transfer window. No change there then...

to get a proven 20+ EPL striker you need to spend double or triple that!

here are the 20+ scorers last season, which could you buy for £30M?

Harry Kane 29
Romelu Lukaku 25
Alexis Sánchez 24
Agüero 20
Diego Costa 20
