Jim White tweeted its done, deposit paid legal agreement in place and now all down to Prem League giving the nod.

They couldn’t, wouldn’t screw us over at this point would they?

George Caulkin interviewed Staveley at her home after the first failed attempt to buy the club, I'm fairly certain she's his source of information and also the reason why he's written and tweeted almost nothing about the takeover until now, he'll be getting the first exclusive interview after the takeover is complete I reckon.

He was also close to Rafa and reading between the lines of what he said before Rafa left, it was obvious he knew it was going to happen even though he didn't say it explicitly.

Reading between the lines of what he's been saying in the last few weeks, I think he's pretty confident this takeover is going through.

Good point...

That said how the financial fair play rules make a difference, not like things were for City. I think you can run a loss of £105m over 3 years, wages and purchase in that. So assuming we can monetise the stadium advertising, at say £20m pa, that means we have an extra £165m. Not sure that makes us the global powerhouse we’d like to be?

£50m fee, plus say £150k pw, is near enough £58m, so 3players at that level? When people are talking about £200m(!) for Harry Kane?

We should be better, but it’s going to be interesting to see how much.

Edit: was £150m I thought I’d read, but Mag report stated is £105m.

We'd be immeasurably better if we at least spent enough to get a striker who can score goals.

We'd be immeasurably better if we felt there was purpose and desire in the club again for anything other than survival.

Belief is all most of us long for, I suspect.

My guess would be we'll have a couple of seasons shopping in the b category of players to try and push towards the European places, so much is dependent on success on the field and money spent is certainly no guarantee of that.

Teams like Fulham and villa have spent large sums in recent seasons and got nowhere, partly because very average or unproven players cost a lot of money these days and there's rarely little difference Vs some of the bargain bin signings we have made (e.g. £4m for schaar).

What we need is a top quality coach and investment in the training facilities, youth setup and stadium to build a stronger squad through gradual improvement.

I don't see us signing truly top names until we've had some success on the field and new owners have demonstrated their ambitions.

All of this is predicated on the deal going through, that PIF genuinely are the Saudi investor and the the new owners are willing to plough a lot of money into the club! None of that is guaranteed yet!

Fingers crossed!!!!!

Have you seen the media are covering themselves in glory? Basically, a why are they not howling and screaming blue bloody murder at the Saudis. Including one S Collymore trying to take the moral high ground.

Not a peep for them for 13 years, but now all of a sudden we’re not hoping St.Mike stays and we’re the tts.

It’s not our job to decide on owners, it’s HMG, the FA , not us, decide if owners are fit and proper, see Chelsea, Shef Utd etc etc for details, didn’t bother shouting about that did you? But don’t let those uppity bloody Geordies get ideas above their place.

fking hypocritical tts the lot of you. Papers going down the tubes? Good, sooner the better if the recent standards of ‘journalism’ are anything to go by.

Would love to see Newcastle regain their swagger à la late 1990s.

And Mike Ashley is a fine physical specimen of a man.

Sky reporting all done bar the fit and proper test.

Queue Liberty sticking their oar in. Don’t recall them getting upset about Sheffield Utd, or Man Utd deal with Saudi sports authority, various club and player sponsors etc etc.

What the hell is it with us?? Why can’t things ever be simple.

So, does this make you a mega rich club like city with cash to burn over the next few years to propel you to the top?

Another bunch of financial dopers with owners using a football club as a plaything in an attempt mask terrible human rights records...just what the league needs.

The Premier League really does need to hit the reset button.

I hope so. It will be pretty funny watching the pundits tie themselves in knots over them. The hand wringing will be hilarious.

It seems that the financial muscle is there, the new owners total wealth is about 10 times greater than sheikh Mansour at Man City. However, financial fair play makes it pretty much impossible to go out and buy the league from our low base.

There is scope to spend significantly more on players than Ashley would have as the club can massively increase commercial revenues by simply not giving all of the commercial agreements to sports direct for free. Newcastle has made a profit in recent seasons and I believe FFP rules allow for some loss making over a three year period.

I would anticipate significant investment in the club infrastructure and a demonstration of greater ambition in the transfer market but, we won't be going out and making any bids for Messi I don't suppose and I honestly hope we don't. I'd like to see the club reconnect with the supporter base and simply allow the fans to have genuine hope that things can be better.

Build steadily and hopefully in a couple of years start competing at the right end of the league.

As has been seen with many clubs, splashing the cash, doesn’t always work unless you can blow other clubs out of the water, e.g. Man City. Financial fair play stops that and preserves the ‘elite’, virtually impossible to do a Jack Walker (god bless him) and take a town team to the top.

Now BeIn, a Qatar broadcaster, are trying to derail things. They argue pirating of broadcast rights, by using frequencies on a Saudi satellite channel, which the Saudi channel deny. There’s also an apparently an ongoing dispute between Qatar and Saudi, which I’ve not seen any details of, which knowing the convoluted nature of ME relationships is maybe the likely truth of the problem.

Typical of The Toon to find a way to make life complicated...

I wouldn't worry about it tbh. But I can see how you would be thinking "only Newcastle" hehe

The Saudis were always going to cause a stir whoever they bought, we (Utd) were getting a dogs abuse for even being linked to them

Ultimately I think they will take over you guys and you'll have 3 months of people moaning while they have nothing else to focus on then it will go quieter until you buy some players
