Steve McClaren because at least you wouldn't have to read about people getting their hopes up laugh

Would anyone care if Capello moved on after the world cup? He doesn't seem to have brought anything new since the Sven and McLaren days.

He doesn't appear to have settled on a keeper.
He hasn't sorted out the fact that Gerrard and Lampard struggle to play together.
He hasn't come up with an answer to the left wing problem.
He hasn't sorted out an effective partner for Rooney.
No i couldnt car less if he stayed on.
I just hope the FA arent going to offer him a lucrative contract without a get-out clause, i really dont rate him and like you say, the problems are still there and yet again, the same old motley crew gets picked and still cant play well as a team.
rofl Capello is the best thing to happen to the England team in years, we play a far better game under him than the previous few managers and of the 24 games he's overseen we've won 18, and one of those defeats was a narrow loss to Brazil.

Who would you rather was England manager?
Just my opinion, i have mine and you have yours, i wouldn`t have a clue who to replace him with and i personally think that we havent really improved enough.

He's no improvement over Sven. Quite frankly you can make Stuart Pearce the England manager. As we are never going to play anything but 4-4-2, it's a motivational job, tactics aren't required.

I may be wrong but I read recently that every team to have won the world cup have only played 4-4-2

The fact we qualified for the WC with 2 games to spare isn't progress then? Strange, how many times have we had to get a result in the final game or rely on play offs.

You can only beat the opposition in front of you. What impresses me about Capello is he doesn't get carried away with all the euphoria when we win and if a system isn't working he's not afraid to change. I think he is probably the most tactically astute Manager we've had in years, it's a results business and Capello gets results...end of.

I would mind betting the whingers on here are gloryhunting armchair fans who claim to support the big clubs, the comments above are typically of the mentality of premiership supporters.

What on earth does that have to do with anything? Please elaborate on the mentality of prem supporters.
I will only pass judgement after the world cup which will be his first competitive test but i am just not convinced by him.
To be honest i think the problem some of us have is that we have seen roughly the same team for a good while now and expected a change, i dont know in what way, i just hoped for something different, there is some good talent in england and we have had long enough to prepare for this.

The England performances under Capello haven't actually generated any euphoria for him to get carried away with.

Nope, and Gerrard through both poor form and injury, should not travel to the World Cup, and as for future England Manager, then I would give either Roy Hodgson or Martin O'Neill a chance at the job

Croatia away for starters, given the stuffing that Mr Umbrella achieved against the same team, it was an excellent display.

It's a results business, he's got results, the likes of you still aren't happy because we didn't play like Holland or Brazil. My point is your the sort of person that complains when the results don't go our way (fair enough) , then complains again when we do get the results but you don't like the way we play. There's never a happy medium, it's always moan, moan, moan.

There is no better man available to manage the team, he's done what as been asked of him so stop moaning and back the Manager and the team.

You seem to be hugely impressed with qualifying from the following group:

Ukraine
Croatia
Belarus
Kazakhstan
Andorra

Not exactly a group of death.

From Twitter...

"Emile Heskey, striker, 58 caps 7 goals. Rene Higuita, keeper, 68 caps 8 goals. Jose Luis Chilavert, keeper, 74 caps 8 goals..."

Says it all really

On the Capello debate, I think he has done well, I feel more confident now he is in charge, he makes changes and they usually work, the dark days of Sven and McClaren were not as good as this....

So you'll join be in wishing Capello goodbye if we have poor results at the world cup?

I don't see any difference in the team he's putting out to the ones that failed under Sven and Mclaren.

My prediction:

England will qualify with relative ease from our group but there'll be a scare along the way then, looking at the teams in our half of the draw, we'll get to the semi-finals where we'll play Brazil.
