My prediction:

England will qualify with relative ease from our group but there'll be a scare along the way then, looking at the teams in our half of the draw, we'll get to the semi-finals where we'll play Brazil.
yes...Thats how I see it panning out as well.

It's a results business, Capello got results. What part of that do you not understand?
Mclaren.
We qualified.
Is that all we are aiming for?
No...

But that's surely different to Mclaren, who, didn't?

Isnt it panned out to be the Dutch v Brazil in the 1/4s ?

I wouldnt like to call that one either way to be honest.

Good article in The Times today about Darren Bent, well worth a read.

Nice to see Sir Niall Quinn supporting the lad too.

So do we all expect Ledley to be the stand-in for Rio? I hope its not Upson who's been unconvincing every time he's put on the England shirt.

I would like to think King will be starting.

England are playing the Planinum Stars at 3pm today, strange choice of opponent for your last game before the World Cup.

I do love it how the managers always get the bullet, even if it was the players who played sh!t.

It isn't like club football where you can buy in talent, sometimes a country just doesn't have it.

One positive so far, Heskey is playing himself out of the starting line up for Saturday. Fookin useless.

Heskey is a useless donkey! Still can't believe Capello picked him I mean even Martin O Neil does not play him regularly for Villa.

Just read that it was Heskey who landed awkwardly onto Fedinand's leg which effectively ruled him out of the world cup. He really is a first class clown.

Er, rubbish.

We had more than enough quality to qualify for the euros.

We still have enough quality to do pretty well in the world cup too, IMO.

So yeah, I think Mclaren was a truly dreadful manager.

Capello says he's sure of his starting 11.

I'm not overly worried about a starting 11, we have a good squad and a plan B and C, it's why the likes of Crouch are there.

also history tells us that it's asquad tourney and about peaking at the right time.

Look at the argies in the last WC for a good example.

To be fair, and although it has happened, it is rare that we don't make it out of the group stage and into the knock-outs...

Its from then on that we seem to get a bit clueless...especially with penalties.

I'll be supporting England, but living in Spain, I can see the difference in the players they have from England. I don't want to divert the thread too much, but the key differences I see are:
England - Committed, fit, passionate, physical
Spain - Thinkers, passing more important than running, first tough incredible.

Of course there are exceptions, but when you see Iniesta and Xavi play, you realise that there is a different way to England and I think it works on the world stage.

It is a squad game, but the core position is Goalkeeper. How many times have we seen a hero between the sticks over the years? From Dino Zoff.... The evil Schumacher (Batiston), Buffon etc And we have not got someone who will do the same. I see a good world cup for England and hope I am proven wrong in my quarter final only prediction.

Rumour on the Beeb is that JC will be playing off Rooney.

So... extrapolating, that's an XI of:

A. Goalie
Johnson, Terry, King, Cole
Lennon?, Gerrard, Lampard, Milner
Cole, Rooney

Why the heck is everyone worried about America? I know we should have had a better run up to these finals but give old Postman Pat some support.

I just think that on Saturday once the nerves have settled it won't be as hard as most people are saying. Still think our biggest problem is the goalkeeper.....oh and Heskey.
