I can't believe how the top three are failing to see it out. Leeds particularly, who have been unbeaten at home. Leicester, who have looked the best team in the league. Ipswich have been in fine company, would be great to see it out.
I think we (Leeds) have been poor since the resumption after the international break; five mediocre performances have yielded only five points and being honest the one win we've had (against Hull) we didn't really deserve. In the process we've given away some some poor goals (including the one that cost us today) but more worrying is we suddenly seem to be devoid of any cutting edge in the final third - lots of possession without creating much in the way of clear chances has become a recurring theme of late. On current form it's difficult to see us winning any of our remaining games and I think Leicester and Ipswich are probably now the favourites to take the automatic promotion places. And if we end-up facing someone like Norwich in the play-offs I think they'll (rightly) fancy their chances; they're bang in form whereas we seem to have lost the plot at just the wrong time....
Just posted on the Leeds page, but agree, the season is just incredible, us, Leeds and Leicester all looked bang at it and relentless for a long time.
Southampton went on a mental run and pulled themselves into the mix, only to implode, then us three all went to pot and Southampton are right back in it!

I think with the way the fixtures fall we play twice before you play again so if we win both you'd be three points behind by the time you next take to the field (arguably effectively four behind given the goal difference). But the problem from our point of view is given our current form I doubt we'll beat either Boro or QPR so it's probably more likely you'll just need to beat either Hull or Coventry to guarantee finishing above us!
In truth I'm now pretty much resigned to the playoffs and in that scenario I don't see us going up. Although in reality I don't think Southampton will overhaul two of the current top three they'll probably still be on a relatively good run of form entering the playoffs as will your neighbours from Norfolk; in contrast, we're out of sorts and will be pretty much shot psychologically having thrown away a great position entering the international break. So I fear it all points to at least one more season in the Championship for us (and probably more if a failure to get promoted sparks the inevitable exodus of our better players in the summer).

Agreed. I watched most of the game and thought we played well, Hull are a good team. Silly give away goal for the second. I would be disappointed if we didn't get four points from the last two. Leeds still need to win, remember. Road2Ruin said:

True. Southampton seem to have gone awol and will finish 4th regardless so how motivated they will be I don't know - much like our opposition.Venisonpie said:

Let's not forget this is a team that took it to ManU, they're a tough opposition.
Huddersfield don't have as much quality, but again, they too have nothing to lose.
Normally i'm positive, but not yet. Just can't get excited.

I am with you. Been and Ipswich fan for fifty years, saw the 1978 FA cup victory. Hard to get excited without being nervouse too. Let's not forget this is a team that took it to ManU, they're a tough opposition.

Been the most incredible season and the football is great to watch, properly entertained. The atmosphere at PR has been brilliant for a few seasons too, even credit Paul Cook with playing good football, even though the results didn't come...certainly started things.
Don't think Luongo will start tonight, think we'll go with Travis to give a bit more bite in midfield and get Morsy up higher, Clarke to play instead of Tuanzebe as he's better at supporting the attacking play.
Will come down to last day though, can feel it in my bones. Leeds can still sneak it.

And when your promotion's confirmed it's a well done and thoroughly deserved from me - you've been top two virtually all season and the points you've got with a game left would normally see a team go up as champions! Surviving in the PL will be another matter but that's the case for whoever goes up...

I think victory against Huddersfield on Saturday is highly likely, although I also expect Leeds to beat Southampton. Ipswich will IMHO be promoted and I must add my congratulations - the table doesn't lie after 46 games. As a Pompey fan I'm heartened by how Ipswich are likely to go from League One to the EPL in successive seasons - perhaps we can copy the Tractor Boys (I doubt it, but you never know).Hopefully Leeds will join Ipswich via the play offs - I want Norwich and West Brom to remain in the Championship because they'll both lose their parachute payments next year (as will Watford).
