Picked up this WRX wagon a week or so ago and after four years of driving £500 beaters it feels like a real weapon - loads of fun when the boost chimes in biggrin. Not bad for 1900 notes I don't think - there really are some performance bargains about these days

On the way back from Oxford after picking her up

back in Southampton

One of the negative things about the car - flaky front bumper - not sure why it's this bad really on a fairly low mileage car for its age (94k) with metallic paint you would think it would have held up better

Defiitely have to get this sorted along with the bonnet scoop which suffers the same problem albeit not as severe. Anyone know what I should be looking at for a respray of the front bumper? Will prob use someone in North Devon after me and the missus complete our move there - had a brief look around the net but doesn't seem to be that many scoob specialists around that way so tips from anyone who's in or near the area appreciated.

General plans are to give it a real good clean, sort the side markers (may go with the scoobyworld vents) and possibly different wheels - I'm not too keen on the gold although it has grown on me a little since I've had it.

my mate had a WRX wagon just like yours, had a similar problem with paint fade on the front bumper and roof spoiler when he bought it. took it to a Scooby Specialist who did paint also and the paint guy said it was possibly down to bird crap being left on the paint for a long period and something about Subaru using thin lacquer?
Obviously i don’t know how much truth was in that or whether the painter was just giving a BS reason instead of saying he didn’t know?

Yeah that could explain it I think - I have read that Subaru paint isn't the thickest/hardest so could easily be true, it's really the only imperfection bodywork wise so once it's sorted she should be looking lovely.

Cheers, I'm well chuffed with it - Full Scoob History too! Drives really well and the interior is almost immaculate, does need a cambelt within the next year though. First thoughts are it's a lot quicker than my last performance car (a CTR back in 2007!), slightly smoother ride and much more communicative through the steering wheel. Really enjoying Scoob ownership so far tongue out

Nice to see a few more Wagons on here. I've had mine 3 years and love it to bits. A brilliant practical car, and, a very quick one too. They're a great mix of family sensibility and hooning fun.

Love that! I'll be after one exactly the same in 6 months or so hopefully! It looks great what sort of mileage has it got and how much did you pay (if you don't mind!)?

It's done 136k but apart from the last service (which was done at a Specialist), has a full Subaru History. Every service done on time, uses no oil etc. I saw some sheds with half the mileage that have no doubt been thrashed to within an inch of their life.

It was somewhere between £1k and £2k wink

That's exactly it... and the relative price you pay for all of that capability... I will have another, however, this time in the form of an Evo...

Is it a standard car or PPP/something else? My Dad had a standard MY99 from new and it always seemed very quick (to me at least). Does it still seem pretty good or do the miles/years tell would you say?

It's just a standard MY99 Turbo with a decat (I think). The performance is good but it's not a patch on my old Evo. I'm actually enjoying this car a bit more though I think, as it's light, nimble, and the corners don't come up too fast. I've got a little bit more time to think about what I need to do next!

I enjoyed my blast over Kirkstone Pass last night smile

I just bought my first Subaru 2 days ago, and I love it so far. It's a 2001 Legacy GTB:

Thanks, chaps.

Ben, I read a good few of your posts on PH when I was reading up on these cars. You didn't know it at the time but you were very helpful, so ta very much.

The only thing I don't like so far is the horrible stereo/DVD unit and speakers, which will be replaced with an Alpine unit some CDT components that I have sitting around.
