Show off your Subaru!!
Discussion
It was £4,000 but with a number of things to note:
1. It hadn't had a documented service in 2 years! Previous owner claimed he had been servicing it himself.
2. Needed work done to the rear arches (bare metal welded in, £480 job)
3. Was on nasty aftermarket 18's alloys with bald tyres (replaced with genuine p1 17" alloys and RE050's)
4. Rear discs and pads were shot.
So it was cheap for a few reasons. Having said that, I still think I got a bargain. It has 83k miles on it and Brian Downie is advertising one with light engine mods but in very good condition with 83k miles for £9k.
The service history was all subaru/specialist up until 2010 and I am planning a 2,5 rebuild so tyhe lack of history in the last 2 years doesn't bother me.
Hope this helps a bit?

Thanks Lefty, really useful and interesting to hear what a bargain you got.
Mines done 81k and had Subaru servicing from day one with me as the 2nd owner from new!
Needs tyres and wheels could use a refurb (lost shine, not damaged) so I have it on for £8k.
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have loved the 7 years with mine!!

Here are three of my old V2 STi. I sold it about four years ago to get an E46 M3, but a year ago switched back to Subaru with a MY11 320R. I love the new saloon. Mine is completely debadged at the back, no wing, and I had the stupid silver stip above the rear plate coded too. Plasma blue, more pictures to follow...
Here's the new STi looking like an unmarked patrol car (please excuse the quality of these photos, they're the ones I have on the pc at the moment)

Nice cars Richard!
How does the MY11 compare to the classic?

Two very different cars, but clearly the same bloodline. How does the MY11 compare to the classic?
Lee
The V2 was very light by comparison, but with a much narrower power band. It was also less well balanced, and much more prone to understeer.
The MY11 has much more outright grip and is clearly quicker just about everywhere. It transfers into a four wheel drift very easily, even in the dry, feeling less 4wd than the earlier car.
Both cars have the whoosh pause whoosh acceleration, but the new car seems more eager to rev than all the classics I have been in - I know that's the opposite of how most people see the 2.5, but it really does want to slam into the limiter in first, second and third gears (I'm sure it would in fourth too, but I like my license!). On my first test drive this really took me by surprise - you barely get time to change gear when you're on it.
Anyway... The newer car is pretty anonymous. Everyone knows a classic Impreza. In the 11 I can see people wondering how they just got burned by a Hyundai!
Finally, economy. I was luck to get 200 miles out of the V2, at we'll under 20mpg. The new one sits nicely at 26 average, and will top 30 on a sensible run.
As a daily proposition, the new car is just awesome. The biggest practical difference to me is the split fold seats, as it means I can get my bikes in it with no hassle.
The most interesting comparison is with the M3 though. Vs. the E46, it is cheaper to run, much rarer, same economy, more space, more performance more of the time. In the m3 you had to really wind it up, and it wasn't that exploitable (best on a track). I can honestly say that the STi gets the beans every time I drive it.
Vs the V8 M3 is a different matter.... I tested both when I changed from the 46, and I think that the STi will cost me precisely half what a 90 would have... Servicing, insurance, depreciation, finance. The V8 was epic, and very special, but too refined and way too expensive.
Anyway, hope that covers it for you Lee! If you're in Herts and want a ride then let me know!

You need a sports exhaust, decent induction system, a shed load of head work to include bigger valves and decent cams, and a patient tuner to do the remapping. To be honest it's simply not worth doing to your average 2.0GX just because of the sheer expense of it for not a lot of gain. Get yourself a Turbo'd scoob, then you can have some fun.
