Sure you can get a towbar through Subaru, never got round to fitting one to mine but you can also get a diff cooler through Subaru as well which is recommended to be fitted if planning on towing.

I thought I would update my original post as there doesn't seem to be too much information online about the Tribeca. It is now approaching 60,000 miles, since my last post. Maintenence since the last post has included a new battery as the original was getting a bit week, new rear pads (first set) and more anti roll bar bushes again. There does seem to be a problem with the design of these bushes as the last set only lasted 18 months before the knocking noise from the front suspension returned. The main dealer that fitted the replacement bushes confirmed they were a slightly different design so fingers crossed that this set last a bit longer. I also had a new alternator belt fitted as the original was getting worn and would squeak a bit from cold.

The car now returns an average 20.5 mpg in mixed driving, on a long run 23 mpg is possible. It uses hardly any oil, starts first time every time, has never broken down and every gadget and electrical item works perfectly, the only failure being a new rear brake light bulb and new batteries in the remote key fob.

The car has worn it's miles really well both inside and out and has been a simply brilliant family car. It is very comfortable, spacious, well equipped and has enough power to make good progress, it has also proved itself very capable once again in this years snow!

Had a se5 for a time. Its a great piece of kit. Always keep it in sport mode however. I had similar issues with arb bushes and a new drivers mirror was £600 +. Getting parts was a problem as everything came out of the states apparently. Getting hold of a dog guard was a bit tricky too. In the end convinced myself that a forester would be a better bet for day to day usage ( though now back in a legacy).

Very useful info as I am looking for a Tribeca too after hours and hours of 7 seater car research. I am also looking to convert to LPG if anyone has advice or experience of this.

I've got an Outback with the same engine, which I got converted to run on gas. I've had no problems with it although some say they should be using Flashlube to prevent VSR. I'm not and none of the H6s that my converter looks after do either. A fill of gas costing just under 45 quid will get me about 250 miles of short commuting and I live it a hilly area. If you are planning to hang on to the car for a while, it's a no-brainer.

I've just part-exchanged a Previa for a Tribeca SE7. Only had it for less than a week but it is a lot of car for the money and comes with a lot of toys. The car seems very well-screwed together, is quiet at speed but does seem to have some thirst. As the OP has said 19 MPG in town and about 25ish on the motorway.

Still have not seen another one on the road though

Hi Kev7117, if you can put up with the fuel consumption you will be very happy. I have recently been thinking of changing ours for something else but I am really reluctant to move on as it is just so reliable and still feels like it will cover many more thousands of miles without trouble. I would have to add £20k to the p/ex price to buy a lower mileage, similarly specified big SUV..

There isn't much information out there for these cars, please update this thread with your thoughts over time if you can!

Great thats helpful guys, so 2007/8 cars with 30-40k should be reasonably big service free for a while.

Has anyone got a tow hitch on a tribeca, none of the ones I have seen advertised have one, I know that some cars are not type approved for a towhitch and so cant get a hitch. We have a sailing dinghy so one would be useful.
There's one on Autotrader now with a towbars so it must be possible. I been looking at Mazda CX-7s and similar but never thought of one of these. Will definitely give one some consideration now.

Hi T5GRF
I will look to keep this thread alive. Must say that compared to an X5 and RX400H which I test drove, the equivalent year Tribeca was cheaper and had lower mileage. It was also a nicer drive with the benefit of 7 seats!

I just thought I would update this one last time as I am now selling the car and moving on. No dramas or major expense since the 60k service and battery replacement. It has just sailed through its mot with the only advisory being the rear tyres are at 2mm.

Over the 5 years and 55000 miles in my ownership it has gone through front disks and pads, rear pads, 2 sets front arb bushes, 1 alarm sensor, 2 bulbs and 1.5 sets of tyres. It has never once let me down.

I will be genuinely sad to see the car go and would have bought another if Subaru still made them.

If anyone is looking for a Tribeca give me a shout before I trade it in.
